MADRID — Yan Diomande has become one of the most watched names in the summer transfer market, with Real Madrid opening talks to sign the RB Leipzig winger, according to The Athletic. The 19-year-old’s rapid rise has also pulled in interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Premier League clubs.
The move matters because Leipzig are already bracing for a fight. The Bundesliga club value Diomande at around €130 million, well above the close to €100 million Liverpool approach reported earlier in the window, and they are still trying to push him toward a new deal that runs until 2030.
Real Madrid step in after missing other targets
Real Madrid have been searching for a right-sided attacking option after abandoning hopes of signing Michael Olise, according to the Yahoo Sports report citing The Athletic. Brahim Diaz is expected to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, but Madrid still want more depth on the flank and now view Diomande as a top target.
Diomande fits what Madrid have been looking for. He can play on either wing, though he is most effective from the right, and his versatility is seen as a major plus by the club’s recruitment team. That profile has helped drive the scramble around him.
PSG remain in the picture too. Sky Sports reported that Diomande has already spoken warmly about the French champions, saying: “It would be a pleasure to play [in Ligue 1], with one of the biggest clubs.”
He added: “It’s always a pleasure to play in France in the past. I don’t think the adaptation to French football would be difficult. So why not?”
Then came the reminder that he is still a Leipzig player. “But after all, I’m a RB Leipzig player.”
Leipzig hold the line on price
Leipzig have not moved from their stance. The club believe they can keep Diomande beyond this summer and continue to hold out for a fee around €130 million, even as interest grows across Europe.
His numbers explain the attention. Diomande scored 12 goals and added nine assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances after joining Leipzig from Leganes just a year ago. For a teenager still early in his development, that return has been enough to put him in the middle of a transfer fight involving some of the continent’s biggest clubs.
Liverpool made contact with Leipzig over the winger’s potential signing, Sky Sports News said, but no offer was made in that round. Yahoo Sports also reported that Liverpool had previously seen an approach close to €100 million rebuffed, a sign of how firmly Leipzig are playing the market.
Arsenal and Manchester City are also among the clubs named in the race by BBC Sport, while Sky Sports reported that the winger has been considered by other English sides, including both Manchester clubs. That broad interest has only strengthened Leipzig’s hand.
The dispute off the pitch adds another layer
There is also a separate issue away from the transfer talk. Sky Sports News reported there is an ongoing dispute between Diomande and his previous representatives, Maxidel Management. The winger signed for Roc Nation Sports earlier this year, and Maxidel Management have taken the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, or CAS.
That situation has not stopped clubs from circling, but it does add noise around any eventual deal. For Real Madrid, it means any move would need to move quickly if they want to stay ahead of PSG and the Premier League clubs still watching closely.
For Leipzig, the next number that matters is simple: €130 million. That is the fee they are said to want before they even consider letting Yan Diomande go this summer.
