MultiChoice Nigeria has launched a month-long “Open Time” promotion that gives eligible DStv subscribers access to higher viewing packages at no extra cost. The offer ran from June 1 to June 30, 2026, and was aimed at rewarding current customers while drawing back inactive users and attracting new ones.
For subscribers on selected lower-tier plans, the upgrade happened automatically once payment was confirmed. No registration. No manual activation. Some customers on Compact and Compact+ packages were temporarily moved into higher tiers, with a slice of Premium content made available during the campaign period.
Automatic access for eligible users
MultiChoice said the promotion was designed to widen access to entertainment content and improve the viewing experience. That matters in a pay-TV market where price sensitivity is high and rivals keep pressing viewers with cheaper streaming options and flexible bundles.
The mechanics were simple. Eligible subscribers did not have to click through a form or request the upgrade. Once their subscription was active, the system applied the offer. For households already keeping their accounts current, the benefit was immediate.
Part of a broader push to keep subscribers engaged
The campaign also pointed to a familiar challenge for pay-TV operators across Africa and beyond: keeping customers from switching off. Promotions like Open Time are often used to remind viewers what sits behind the higher tiers, especially premium sports, movies and general entertainment that can be hard to sample from a lower package.
MyBroadband separately reported good news for DStv Premium subscribers, while other coverage highlighted offers for people thinking about joining DStv in South Africa and for Discovery Bank customers who watch the service. Together, the reports suggest MultiChoice has been leaning on targeted perks to keep the brand sticky across different customer groups.
For now, the Nigeria promotion has already run its course. But the message was plain enough: stay connected, keep payments current, and the platform may open the door a little wider. In a crowded TV and streaming market, that kind of trial can matter more than a billboard. One month. No extra charge.
