Sweden Lead Romania 1-0 as Gyökeres Strikes Early in Nations League

ESPN’s live match tracker showed Sweden leading Romania 1-0 in their UEFA Nations League Group B4 game, with Viktor Gyökeres scoring in the 13th minute. The match was listed at 23 minutes, as Romania looked for a response and its first points in the group.

The early score put Sweden in front despite Romania having more of the ball. ESPN’s figures showed Romania with 56% possession against Sweden’s 44%, but the hosts had not registered a shot on target at that point.

Gyökeres gives Sweden the lead

Gyökeres found the net from close range, according to ESPN’s shot-by-shot match data. The forward’s effort came from four metres and was recorded as a right-footed attempt from regular play.

Sweden had already threatened before the goal. ESPN recorded an attempt by Sebastian Nanasi in the fourth minute, blocked, followed by another Nanasi shot in the 13th minute that went in. The tracker credited Sweden with one shot on target at the time of its update.

Romania had attempts of its own, but none had tested the goalkeeper. Left-back Nicușor Bancu sent a shot wide in the eighth minute, while Darius Olaru’s effort from a corner in the 16th minute also missed the target.

Sweden’s lead matters in a group where the teams entered the match with sharply different records. ESPN listed Romania at 0-0-3 and zero points, while Sweden stood at 2-1-0 with seven points. A Romanian reply would therefore carry immediate significance for its position in Group B4.

Possession has not translated into chances

Romania had completed 96 of 109 passes, an 88% accuracy rate, compared with Sweden’s 77 accurate passes from 90, or 86%, ESPN reported. The possession and passing figures pointed to Romanian control of the ball, yet the team had created no big chances in the live statistics.

Sweden, by contrast, had one big chance created and one missed, according to the same tracker. It had also recorded six touches in the opposition box, compared with one for Romania. The gap helps explain why the visitors could lead despite having less possession.

The difference is clear. Romania needs sharper finishing.

ESPN’s match data also showed Sweden winning nine of 14 duels, while Romania had won five of 14. The visitors had taken two corners, with Romania yet to win one, and Sweden had drawn a foul in the final third. Those details offered another measure of the pressure around Romania’s penalty area during the opening stages.

The live figures are a snapshot, not a final result. They describe the match at 23 minutes and could change as play continues. At that update, Sweden’s advantage rested on Gyökeres’ goal, scored in the 13th minute.
