Matthew Stafford’s Wife Shares Pregame Kiss Before Rams-Bills

For Matthew Stafford, the Rams’ matchup with Buffalo began with a few moments on the sideline with his family. Matthew Stafford’s wife, Kelly, and their daughters greeted the quarterback at SoFi Stadium before he returned to warmups for the Monday night game.

Stafford kissed each of his daughters, who wore matching outfits with his No. 9, then kissed Kelly. The family posed for a picture before he ran back to join his teammates, the New York Post reported.

The pregame greeting came before a high-scoring night for Stafford, but it did not deliver a win. He completed 40 of 54 passes for 383 yards and three touchdowns, according to Yahoo Sports, while the Bills won in overtime.

The family moment was brief. The game was not.

Matthew Stafford’s wife and daughters meet him before kickoff

The New York Post described the sideline scene as a familiar ritual for the Staffords, who have made a point of meeting on the field before big games over the last few years. The report said Stafford paused his warmups to greet his wife and daughters before the Bills matchup.

Yahoo Sports also described the pregame ritual, reporting that Stafford has embraced and kissed his daughters and Kelly before games for years, dating back to his time with the Detroit Lions. The publication said the NFL shared video of the family’s meeting before the Bills game, and that it drew attention from fans.

Yahoo Sports identified four daughters in the family moment: twins Sawyer and Chandler, Hunter, and Tyler. The New York Post reported that the girls wore matching outfits bearing their father’s jersey number.

The moment offered a contrast with the pressure of a pivotal matchup. Stafford soon left the sideline to rejoin the Rams, then put up a strong passing line against Buffalo. Yahoo Sports reported his 40 completions were a career high and gave him a 111.9 passer rating.

Strong passing night ends in overtime defeat

Stafford’s production did not secure the result. Yahoo Sports reported that Bills quarterback Josh Allen led Buffalo to an overtime victory. The Rams quarterback finished the game with three touchdown passes, but Los Angeles left SoFi Stadium with a loss.

The New York Post’s account, published before the final result, said Stafford had thrown for more than 100 yards and a touchdown in the first half. The later Yahoo Sports report provided the full-game figures: 383 yards and three touchdowns on 40 completions in 54 attempts.

Yahoo Sports said the Rams had a 2-3 record at that point in the season. Its report also noted that Allen’s rushing ability, which accounted for 121 yards, made a major difference in the overtime win.

The reports describe two sides of the night: a family ritual that preceded kickoff and a game in which Stafford delivered a career-high number of completions without getting the Rams the win. His final line was 40 completions on 54 attempts.
