Pearl Abyss has opened a free five-hour trial of crimson desert enhanced edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox, giving eligible players a chance to try the base game before buying it. The trial is available from 29th October to 6th January, and progress carries over if a player purchases the full game.
Access depends on the console. PlayStation 5 players need a PlayStation Plus Premium or Deluxe subscription, while the trial is available to all Xbox players, including those without a paid Xbox subscription.
The clock cannot be reset. Once the five hours are used, players cannot restart the trial with another save. Pearl Abyss is offering the trial to mark the launch of Charting the Unknown, the game’s first DLC, but the trial itself covers only the base game.
Who can play the Crimson Desert Enhanced Edition trial?
PlayStation 5 access is limited to PlayStation Plus Premium and Deluxe subscribers. On Xbox, any player can access the trial, regardless of whether they have a paid subscription for Xbox’s ecosystem.
The difference gives Xbox players broader access to the preview, while PlayStation players must meet the subscription requirement. Both groups get the same five-hour limit, and any progress made during that time can transfer to the full game after purchase.
That carryover gives players a way to test the game without losing their trial progress if they decide to buy it. But there is no second run: Pearl Abyss’s trial rules do not allow players to restart using a different save after the allotted time expires.
What does the trial include?
The trial covers Crimson Desert Enhanced, the base game. It does not include Charting the Unknown, which Pearl Abyss released to celebrate the trial’s launch. The DLC came out the day before the trial announcement.
Crimson Desert is a sandbox fantasy role-playing game. Pearl Abyss has been working to improve it and address issues present at launch, according to the company description in the report. The trial now lets players who have not purchased the game try its opening five hours on console.
The release comes after strong sales. Crimson Desert sold over 6 million copies in three months, and the publisher’s revenue was up 419 percent, the source account said. Pearl Abyss also gave each employee at development studio Pearl Abyss a $3,400 bonus.
Charting the Unknown is the game’s first DLC. Pearl Abyss has hinted at multiplayer-focused DLC in the future, and a sequel, while a version of the game for Switch 2 is in development. The current trial window runs from 29th October to 6th January.
