The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday unveiled a new national team under president Nitin Nabin, a reshuffle that brings back familiar faces such as Smriti Irani and Ram Madhav while dropping several functionaries from the previous line-up. The move comes as the party sharpens its organisation ahead of key Assembly elections.
A fresh team, and a clear signal
The new list of office-bearers marks Nabin’s first major restructuring of the party apparatus since taking over as BJP president seven months ago. Party leaders described it as a team built for the future, with a mix of experience, younger names and regional balance.
Smriti Irani, the former Union minister, has returned as one of the party’s national general secretaries. Ram Madhav, who had earlier served as a national general secretary, has been appointed vice-president. The line-up also keeps several senior figures in place, including Vasundhara Raje Scindia, D Purandeshwari and Rekha Verma as vice-presidents.
Short and sharp. The message was obvious.
Nabin’s pitch to the youth
On the same day, Nabin used a public event to press a broader point about politics and life. Speaking at the launch of the Hindi biography of former vice president M Venkaiah Naidu, he urged young people to avoid shortcuts and take the longer path if they want real success.
“The young today often take shortcuts to achieve instant success,” he said, according to the report. “I want to tell them that it is important to select the difficult but right path rather than the easy one. In politics, shortcuts do not deliver results, only the long runs will matter.”
He also congratulated the new team and said it would help carry Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to the grassroots, working with what he called strong commitment.
Women, regional balance and experience
Indian media reports said the new national team includes 65 office-bearers, with 10 women among them. The broader reshuffle also reflects representation from different regions and social groups, with six leaders from minority communities included in the wider line-up.
Among the notable appointments, former NCW chief Rekha Verma remains vice-president, while Lal Singh Arya has been promoted from SC Morcha president to vice-president. Other new or retained names in the reshuffle include Baijayant Panda, Tariq Mansoor, Saudan Singh, Bharti Pravin Pawar, Varshaben Narendrabhai Doshi, Kavita Patidar and Sangeeta Yadav.
The changes also signal who is out. Amit Malviya, long associated with the party’s social media machinery, has been dropped from the new setup, according to reports. Party watchers see the reshuffle as Nabin’s first strong imprint on the BJP’s national structure, with elections ahead and little room for drift.
The full team carries 65 office-bearers.
