Meghan Markle is reportedly in early talks to return to acting through Guy Ritchie’s Netflix crime series The Gentlemen, a move that would put the Duchess of Sussex back on screen after years away from scripted television. The potential role is not set, and no contract has been signed.
The discussion, first reported by Variety and echoed by other outlets, comes as Netflix has not yet officially renewed the show for a third season. That matters. Meghan’s involvement would depend on the streamer giving the green light.
A possible comeback, but no deal yet
Sources cited in the reports say the conversations are still at an early stage. Meghan’s character, if she joins, has not been identified. There has been no public confirmation from Netflix, Ritchie or representatives for the Duchess.
The timing has sharpened interest. Recent reports have linked the Sussexes’ planned move back to the UK later this month with speculation that Meghan could re-enter acting. The couple, who have lived in the United States for six years, are expected to return in September, with their children already enrolled in British schools.
Still, the project remains conditional. No renewal, no role. Simple.
Why The Gentlemen fits the conversation
The Gentlemen is a spin-off of Guy Ritchie’s 2019 crime comedy of the same name. The series stars Theo James as Eddie Horniman, an aristocratic soldier who inherits his late father’s estate and discovers it sits on top of a major underground cannabis operation. Season two is due to premiere on September 3.
The first season gave Netflix a hit, which is why talk of a third season has already drawn attention. If Meghan were to join, it would mark her first major acting role since marrying Prince Harry.
From Rachel Zane to a possible screen return
Before royal life and years of tabloid scrutiny, Meghan became widely known for playing Rachel Zane on Suits for seven seasons, from 2011 to 2018. She also made smaller-screen appearances in CSI: NY and 90210, and appeared in films including Horrible Bosses and Anti-Social. She also led two Hallmark movies.
For now, though, the return remains a maybe. Netflix has not ordered season three, the role is still undefined, and the talks are described as preliminary. The next concrete marker is the show’s second season, set for release on September 3.
