WINDHOEK — Zimbabwe vs Namibia still matters in the Namibia T20I Tri-Series, even after South Africa locked up a place in the final. The tri-series runs from August 28 to September 6 in Windhoek, and two matches plus the final remain on the schedule.
That keeps the pressure on Zimbabwe, ranked 12th, and Namibia, ranked 17th, as both teams chase a route into the title match. South Africa, ranked fifth, have already done enough to reach the final with a second-string squad led by left-arm spinner Björn Fortuin.
Zimbabwe vs Namibia keeps the race open
Zimbabwe are using the tournament as preparation ahead of co-hosting the ICC ODI World Cup in 2027. Namibia, meanwhile, enter the series with real belief after beating South Africa in their only previous T20I meeting by six wickets.
Gerhard Erasmus, Namibia’s captain, pointed to how much closer short-format cricket has become between full members and associate sides. "Lots of the associate nations have gone away from the tag of just competing, and games are actually started on a very equal footing these days, especially the T20 format," he said. "If you have two star performers on the day, it could swing the result your way."

South Africa already through, but the fight stays tight
South Africa’s place in the final changes the equation for everyone else. Fortuin said his side were pleased with the win but still wanted cleaner cricket in key moments.
"Happy with the peformance. Obviously with the standards we set for ourselves, there are some areas we would like to tidy up. We were a bit loose with the ball at the end and with the bat we wanted more, but I've learned not to take any wins for granted. Good to see bowlers standing up at different points. Fairly happy with some wickets. We never really strive for individual performances, we are looking for wins, but to contribute like that was quite cool. Obviously we want to go into the business end of the series with some confidence and getting a good performance against Namibia will do that," Fortuin said.
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza kept the door open after the latest setback. "I think we need to win our next game and SA need to win theirs and then the picture is clear. Not all is lost," he said. Raza added that the team closed out the death overs well and that the batting still has boxes to tick.
"The scorecard says something but the batters have a new mindset. I think we closed out the death pretty well against set batters. The last 4-5 overs were very special. That one over from Madhevere was special. The pacers closing it out without Blessing was special. With the bat, some boxes still to tick. If we had wickets in hand with that score, we could have taken it much closer. Our bowlers take a lot of pride in their batting as well. We have to come together and play a bit smarter but still positively and the tide will turn," Raza said.

The player of the match in the latest South Africa game was Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who said, "I'm just glad we got over the line. Milestones will come and go. I was just gutted today because at the 14-over mark we'll get over 200 but we couldn't do that. But we won so I am happy."
