Hyderabad’s latest political chatter has turned to Konda Surekha, but the former Telangana minister is pushing back. On Sept. 4, she used X to reject online rumours about her next move and said posts circulated in her name had no link to her official accounts.
The denial came days after the Congress-led state government dropped her from the cabinet. Surekha, who had held the forest, environment and endowments portfolios, was removed after internal friction and controversy spilled into the open. The fallout has exposed a sharp rift inside Telangana Congress. And it is still playing out.
Surekha points followers to official accounts
In her message to media and the public, Surekha shared links to her official Instagram, Facebook, X and YouTube handles. She said people should rely only on those verified channels for updates. The post followed a Facebook message carrying her photo and the line, “The wait is almost over,” along with a tease that a “big update” was coming soon and the phrase, “Stay Tuned, Telangana”.
Surekha said she had no connection with the posts and news being circulated under her name across social platforms. The tone was direct. No ambiguity.
Cabinet removal deepens Congress infighting
Her dismissal had already stirred strong political reactions. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy moved to remove her after public infighting and controversy linked to remarks by her daughter, Konda Sushmitha, who accused the chief minister and his family of corruption in land-related matters. The state Congress disciplinary committee submitted an observation report to the party high command, and the decision followed discussions in Delhi.
The Chief Minister’s Office said there was no place for indiscipline in the cabinet. Surekha, however, said she was shocked by the move and argued she had no role in her married daughter’s statements. She also said she was not given a proper chance to explain her position.
Opposition seizes on the split
The row has handed ammunition to the opposition. The BJP and the BRS have both attacked the state government, saying the chief minister is trying to silence corruption allegations raised from within his own party. BJP MP DK Aruna also said there had been no discussion about inviting Surekha to join the BJP after her dismissal.
Aruna described Surekha as a senior woman leader and said internal differences inside Congress appeared to have driven the removal. She also questioned whether action against Surekha over her daughter’s comments matched Congress’s claims about its work for backward classes.
For now, the former minister is doing one thing clearly: separating herself from the online buzz. Her official X post, dated Sept. 4, remains the clearest sign of her response to the speculation — and the latest twist in a cabinet shake-up that began with a report sent to party leadership.
