The state of two NFL offensive lines shifted sharply with a single trade. The Philadelphia Eagles sent Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday, receiving a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick while also sending Baltimore a 2027 seventh-rounder.

The deal gives the Ravens a center after injuries depleted their options at the position. For Philadelphia, it adds draft capital but leaves an already unsettled offensive line without another starter, one day after right tackle Lane Johnson announced his retirement.

The trade terms were first reported by NFL insider Adam Schefter and confirmed in reports from ESPN and other outlets. Jurgens, a two-time Pro Bowl center, is under contract through the 2029 season, according to ESPN.

Baltimore had been searching for a replacement for Tyler Linderbaum, who signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in March. The Ravens were down to their fourth center of the season, with rookie first-round pick Olaivavega Ioane moving from right guard after the team’s top three centers went on injured reserve.

Jurgens could fill that vacancy once he is ready to play. Ravens coach Jesse Minter said the expectation was for him to be ready by next week, while noting the team would need to bring him up to speed.

“Mentally, he is at a really high level, I would say,” Minter said. “So, I think it is a great opportunity for him to step in here. We will have to catch him up.”

Why Baltimore moved for Cam Jurgens

The Ravens’ center troubles have built through a series of injuries. Danny Pinter was nearing the starting job before a season-ending knee injury during a joint practice with the Minnesota Vikings. In Baltimore’s 34-31 win in Rio de Janeiro, the team then lost Jovaughn Gwyn to a broken fibula and Ethan Pocic to a knee injury.

Gwyn, who started the first three games, is expected to miss two to three months, a source told ESPN. Ioane was expected to start his second straight game at center on Sunday night against the Atlanta Falcons, with the option of returning to guard when Jurgens takes over.

“Cam is a player we have long admired going all the way back to the draft process,” Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said in a statement. He described Jurgens as a young foundational piece and said he would contribute quickly in Baltimore.

The need is immediate. Baltimore had shifted a rookie away from his natural guard position to cover center, and further injuries had narrowed the available choices. Jurgens gives the team an experienced option at the position, though the Ravens still need to integrate him before he can take over.

Eagles weigh draft return against short-term changes

Philadelphia moved Jurgens from center to left guard in Week 2 after Landon Dickerson went on injured reserve with a knee injury. Jurgens had not played left guard at the professional level and struggled in the new role. He is also in concussion protocol after reporting symptoms following Sunday’s game against the Rams.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said the team had not set out to trade Jurgens. Talks with Baltimore intensified over the previous 24 hours, he said, and the eventual terms made the deal a “win-win” in his view.

“Obviously they're getting a player that has been a two-time Pro Bowl center for us, and for us, being able to get the picks we were able to get and use that money also to sign players” factored into the decision, Roseman said.

He added that the Eagles considered Drew Kendall’s play at center, the incoming picks and the money freed up by the move. Roseman said the team viewed the package as “getting four players for one.”

That calculation comes with an immediate cost. Johnson has retired, Jurgens is gone, and Dickerson remains on injured reserve. ESPN reported that Philadelphia is high on interior linemen Kendall and Willie Lampkin, but the trade leaves the team needing to settle its line while the season continues.

The second-round pick is scheduled for 2028. The Eagles already had their own first- and second-round selections for that draft, along with the New England Patriots’ first-round pick from the A.J. Brown trade. The new pick gives Philadelphia another high-round asset as it reshapes the roster.

For Baltimore, the transaction directly addresses a position hit by injuries. For Philadelphia, it exchanges a two-time Pro Bowl center for future selections while increasing the pressure on the remaining offensive linemen to stabilize the unit now.

Jurgens is expected to be ready by next week, according to Minter.
