A $6.25 billion pledge to investment accounts for children brought Susan Dell into the Oval Office spotlight. The dell wife of technology executive Michael Dell appeared alongside President Donald Trump at a press event on October 7, where she described responses from families whose accounts had received contributions.

The appearance drew attention to the Dells’ role in Trump Accounts, described in the source as tax-advantaged investment accounts for U.S. children under 18. The couple’s contribution is intended to reach millions of children, while Susan Dell’s remarks highlighted how families say they view the accounts and their children’s future plans.

“Over the past month, as our contribution has reached millions of children's accounts, Michael and I have heard from so many parents and kids and grandparents with these beautiful letters that have truly moved us,” Susan said during the Oval Office appearance, according to USA Today, as quoted by Yahoo Finance.

She added that children had written about aspirations including entrepreneurship and careers in nursing, medicine and engineering. Their letters, she said, described hopes of building companies of their own.

The commitment places the Dells’ philanthropy alongside a government-backed initiative focused on children’s investment accounts. For families, the direct significance is whether the pledge translates into contributions reaching eligible children; the Yahoo Finance report describes the accounts as intended for U.S. children younger than 18 but does not provide further eligibility details.

The Dells have given away $10 billion to nonprofits since launching the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation in 1999, according to the foundation website cited by Yahoo Finance. The new $6.25 billion pledge is tied to Trump Accounts.

The pledge has also kept Susan Dell in public view beyond her role as a philanthropist. She moved from fashion design into charitable work and served on President George W. Bush’s Council for Physical Fitness and Sports, according to Yahoo Finance.

Susan and Michael Dell met in Austin, Texas, in 1988 and married the following year. They have four children: Alexa, Kira and Juliette, and their son Zachary.

“He was the nicest guy I'd ever met,” Susan told Texas Monthly in August 2000, reflecting on meeting Michael.

The Oval Office appearance focused on the couple’s latest pledge and the letters they said they had received from parents, children and grandparents. Susan said some children described wanting to become entrepreneurs, nurses, doctors and engineers.

The pledge announced for Trump Accounts is $6.25 billion.
