Apple Spotlights Seven Indie Games for App Store Debut During Indie Games Week

Apple Newsroom says seven acclaimed independent games are making their App Store debut, giving iPhone and iPad players a new slate of titles to download or pre-order. The company announced Indie Games Week on October 12, with daily features and curated collections planned throughout the week.

The lineup spans kung fu combat, card-based dungeon runs and space exploration. One of its biggest releases, Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky, is scheduled to reach iPhone and iPad on October 28, bringing its major content expansions to mobile for the first time.

Apple Newsroom spotlights Sifu and Vampire Crawlers

Apple’s featured games include Sifu, a third-person brawler about a young kung fu student on a path of revenge. Its iPhone and iPad version has custom-tuned touch controls, a reworked camera system and full controller support, Apple said.

The game puts players in fights against groups of enemies at once. They must parry attacks, chain combos and use objects around them as weapons. The mobile adaptation is designed around those close-quarters battles rather than simply presenting the original controls on a smaller screen.

Short, tactical runs are the draw of Vampire Crawlers, a gothic card battler spun off from Vampire Survivors. Players build decks, search for powerful card combinations and uncover secret relics while fighting through dungeons populated by skeletons, bats and other enemies.

Apple described the game as a shift from dodging bullets to tactical deck building. That gives the week’s selection a distinct alternative to Sifu’s direct combat: decisions about cards and combinations shape each run.

No Man’s Sky arrives on Apple devices October 28

No Man’s Sky will make its mobile debut on iPhone and iPad on October 28, after a decade of continuing development, Apple said. The release will include every major content expansion to date, including the most recent Cosmos update, which lets players command their own space stations.

The game is set in a procedurally generated universe rendered at runtime. Players can explore, trade, fight and survive across an interconnected galaxy, with the mobile release bringing those activities to Apple’s phones and tablets.

That launch date gives the week’s promotion a longer-running headline release beyond the games available now. Apple says the other titles will be featured throughout Indie Games Week and can already be downloaded from the App Store.

The remaining games cover several different styles. Little Kitty, Big City follows a curious cat through an open-world metropolis; 9 Kings is a strategic kingdom builder built around card armies; Dome Keeper sends players mining on an alien world while fending off foes; and Yes, Your Grace 2: Snowfall centers on difficult choices in a crumbling empire.

Carson Oliver, Apple’s head of App Store Worldwide, said the company wanted to highlight games and teams willing to take creative risks. “Indie games are constantly pushing the boundaries of creativity to deliver unique gameplay experiences to Apple users, and we wanted to take a moment to celebrate these games and the teams that take creative risks to push gaming forward,” Oliver said.

Apple said players can also browse an overview of indie games curated by App Store editors, while Mac users can find a separate guide to indie titles. No Man’s Sky reaches iPhone and iPad on October 28.
