PSG Beat Man City 4-2 as Hargreaves Calls Them Unstoppable
PSG beat Manchester City 4-2 at Etihad Stadium despite fewer shots. Owen Hargreaves said the Paris side were difficult to stop.

Paris Saint-Germain’s clinical finishing handed Manchester City a 4-2 defeat at Etihad Stadium, despite the hosts taking more shots and slightly more of the ball. The result strengthened former City and Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves’ view that PSG are difficult to stop.
The match, played early Thursday, October 15, 2026, saw Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha put the French side three goals ahead before halftime. Erling Haaland pulled one back in the 53rd minute, but Maghnes Akliouche restored PSG’s three-goal cushion in the 63rd. Haaland scored again in the 75th.
City kept pushing, yet could not overturn the deficit. Ferran Torres had a chance to make the finish tighter from the penalty spot in the 90th minute, but missed.
PSG made fewer shots count
UEFA’s match figures recorded 25 shots for City, 10 more than PSG. The home side also had 52% possession, compared with PSG’s 48%.
The numbers did not translate into a lead. PSG turned their chances into four goals, while City spent much of the match trying to recover from the three-goal first-half gap. Haaland’s brace brought hope, but PSG responded with Akliouche’s goal and kept their advantage.
That finishing edge matters in a contest where one side can create more attempts without controlling the score. City’s shot count showed they threatened frequently; PSG’s four goals showed how decisively they punished openings.
A third straight PSG win after a slow start
The victory followed PSG’s 3-1 win over Le Mans in Ligue 1. Lucas Beraldo scored from a first-half penalty before Louis Mafouta equalized nine minutes after the break. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, brought on after halftime, scored in the 61st minute, and Akliouche sealed the result seven minutes later.
That win was PSG’s third in a row after a slow start to the season and lifted the Paris club to fifth place. Luis Enrique rested several regular starters against Le Mans. Kvaratskhelia came off the bench and made an immediate impact.
Hargreaves, a former player for both Manchester clubs, said Maresca’s City side could not contain PSG’s momentum. The match offered a clear illustration: City scored twice through Haaland, but PSG kept finding a response.
Pressure on City after the defeat
The loss also came as City faced scrutiny following an independent Premier League commission’s finding that the club had breached spending rules. City denied the allegations and appealed. The PSG match was City’s first home game since the commission’s conclusions were announced in late September.
At Etihad Stadium, PSG finished with four goals from 15 shots. Torres’ missed penalty came in the 90th minute.
