Sabah FK Beats Slavia Prague 2-0 for First Champions League Win
Sabah FK beat Slavia Prague 2-0 in Baku for its first Champions League win, recovering from a 4-0 opening loss to Manchester United.

For a club making its first appearance in Europe’s premier competition, the response to an opening defeat was immediate. Sabah FK beat Slavia Prague 2-0 in Baku on October 13, 2026, earning its first Champions League victory and first points in the league phase.
The second-round match was played at Baku Olympic Stadium. Sabah had lost 4-0 to Manchester United in its opener, while Slavia also arrived after losing its first league-phase game.
Parris and Mickels deliver the goals
The deadlock broke in the 49th minute, when Kaheem Parris put the hosts ahead shortly after halftime. Sabah held on before Joy-Lance Mickels added a second in the 88th minute.
Mickels’ goal followed an unusual error by Slavia’s goalkeeper, who failed to deal with a lofted ball while coming off his line. The mistake settled the result: Sabah won 2-0.
The victory offered a sharp reversal after the Azerbaijani side’s 4-0 loss to Manchester United in its European debut. It also gave the club three points to take into its next league-phase match.
A historic result in Baku
Sabah had entered the match with a strong home record in Champions League qualifying this season: four wins from four games, with 12 goals scored and two conceded. Slavia, by contrast, had won four straight domestic matches before losing 2-3 to RC Lens in its league-phase opener.
The result was also reported differently by Indonesian outlets. Topik.id said the match ended 0-0, describing a tight first half and a Sabah goal in the 19th minute that was disallowed after a VAR review. Match reports from Media Indonesia and Goal, however, recorded a 2-0 Sabah win, with Parris and Mickels scoring.
For supporters at Baku Olympic Stadium, the win marked a milestone: Sabah’s first victory in the Champions League, in the club’s first participation in the competition’s main tournament.
