For AC Milan, the Europa League visit to Salzburg offered a chance to respond after losing their opener. Alphadjo Cissè scored a hat trick as Milan won 4-0 away against RB Salzburg, who suffered their first defeat of the season.

Ruben Amorim’s side took the lead through Cissè before he added two more goals, while substitute Gonçalo Ramos scored a late fourth. Milan finished with 10 men after Filippo Terracciano was sent off with seven minutes left.

The victory got Milan’s Europa League campaign up and running after a 2-0 defeat by Benfica at San Siro in their opening league-stage match. Salzburg had arrived on a 15-match unbeaten run across all competitions under new head coach Danny Rohl, according to ESPN.

Three goals from Cissè

Cissè opened the scoring after 15 minutes, glancing in a floated cross from Omari Hutchinson, who was one of several players brought into Milan’s side by Amorim. The teenager scored again in the 32nd minute, finishing after Davide Bartesaghi laid the ball back to him following Adrien Rabiot’s angled pass through the penalty area.

Salzburg thought they had equalized in the 23rd minute. Haris Tabakovic tapped in Leandro Morgalla’s cross, but the ball had gone out of play before it reached him, ESPN reported.

Early in the second half, Cissè completed his treble with a close-range finish. The goal followed a break down the left and a low cross into the six-yard box. A lengthy video assistant referee review ruled the forward just onside.

That was the decisive moment. Cissè’s three goals put Milan firmly in control and turned a European test built around a young side into a clear away win. The result also gave Milan a response to their opening loss, while ending Salzburg’s unbeaten stretch.

Late goal and dismissal

Ramos added Milan’s fourth with 18 minutes left, after Ardon Jashari took the ball from Salzburg midfielder Bartosz Mazurek as the home side tried to play out from the back.

Salzburg had a chance through substitute Gaoussou Diakité, whose shot flashed wide. Milan’s night ended with a setback of its own: Terracciano was shown a red card after pushing Dominik Schmid over just outside the penalty area as Schmid ran clear following a counterattack.

The dismissal came with seven minutes remaining, leaving Milan to see out the closing stages with 10 players. Salzburg’s run of 15 matches without defeat ended in a 4-0 loss.
