Verizon iPhone Handoff will cost customers $10 a month, letting them use one phone number across two compatible iPhones. The carrier confirmed the price on Friday, with support expected before the end of the year.

The fee is twice what T-Mobile charges. For customers who want to switch between two iPhones without changing numbers, the choice of carrier will affect the monthly cost of that convenience.

How the iPhone Handoff fee compares

Apple introduced iPhone Handoff as an iOS 27 feature that lets users keep a single number active across two iPhones. When a user switches devices, the active status moves to the phone in use.

Verizon says the feature will work on compatible iPhone models running iOS 27 and provide access to its 5G network. Customers can switch between the devices at any time, according to the carrier’s announcement.

The price gap is clear. T-Mobile confirmed a $5 monthly charge shortly after Apple discussed the feature at its “Surprise and Shine” event last month. Verizon’s $10 monthly price is twice that amount.

Deutsche Telekom, meanwhile, is making Handoff available through its existing MultiSIM service, which costs €6.95 per month unless it is already included in a customer’s plan. The arrangements differ by carrier, so users will need to check how the feature fits into their existing service.

One number, two iPhones

The feature is aimed at people who want to carry different iPhones for different situations while keeping the same number. Apple has positioned it around switching between devices, and Verizon cited using an iPhone Duo on the go or an iPhone 18 Pro for work as examples.

That setup could help someone separate a work-oriented device from a phone used at other times, without needing to use a different number on each. But keeping two compatible phones and paying an additional monthly fee are part of the trade-off.

There is a technical step behind the convenience. CNET reported that carriers must configure each phone’s eSIM for Handoff and coordinate the service switch on their networks. The feature is not simply a phone setting that works independently of the carrier.

Short switch. Extra charge.

Apple initially named T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom as launch supporters. Verizon and UK carrier EE were expected to follow before the end of the year, according to the 9to5Mac report. Verizon has now confirmed its price.

AT&T has not announced plans to support Handoff. When CNET asked about the feature, an AT&T spokesperson said the company saw potential in it but was focused on existing eSIM activation and transfer options.

That leaves customers with different options depending on their carrier. T-Mobile’s stated fee is $5 a month, while Verizon plans to charge $10. Verizon says its service will be available on compatible iPhones running iOS 27.
