Intel Says Razor Lake-AX Will Deliver 700 TOPS of AI Compute in 2028
Intel’s Razor Lake-AX system-on-chip is slated to arrive in 2028 with up to 700 trillion operations per second of AI computing capacity, an executive said

Intel’s Razor Lake-AX system-on-chip is slated to arrive in 2028 with up to 700 trillion operations per second of AI computing capacity, an executive said at a semiconductor seminar in South Korea. The figure would be nearly four times the 180 TOPS cited for Intel’s Panther Lake chips.
Cho Min-sung, an Intel senior vice president, discussed the roadmap at the “Semiconductors Powering Humanoids” seminar in Samseong-dong. He said Intel expects Razor Lake-AX in 2028, following Nova Lake in 2027, according to a report by The Elec quoted by Wccftech.
A jump in AI capacity
Intel’s stated 700-TOPS target marks a substantial increase over the company’s current-generation Panther Lake “Core Series 3” processors, which are rated at 180 TOPS in the cited report. TOPS, or trillions of operations per second, is a measure used to describe AI-processing throughput.
The number is a performance target, not a full picture of how the chip will perform in specific applications. Intel has not, in the cited material, provided details on product configurations, pricing or the workloads behind the comparison.
Still, the planned increase points to a stronger emphasis on local AI processing in future PCs and other computing devices. Running more AI tasks on a device can reduce reliance on remote data centers, though actual benefits depend on software and system design.
Details remain limited
Razor Lake-AX is not expected to be a conventional desktop processor, Wccftech reported, describing it as a system-on-chip platform. Separate technology reports have suggested Intel may bring back memory integrated on the processor package, a design feature associated with its Lunar Lake chips. Those reports characterize the memory approach as a possibility, not a confirmed specification.
Intel’s announcement also puts Razor Lake on a longer roadmap alongside Nova Lake, which Cho said is planned for 2027. Earlier reports had pointed to preliminary Razor Lake-AX support appearing in HWiNFO, but the executive’s comments provide a public timing confirmation.
For now, the headline figure is the clearest detail Intel has offered. More information on the chip’s architecture, memory and intended devices will be needed to show how the 700-TOPS target translates into products when the 2028 launch approaches.
