Major Cardiff road closures

Cardiff Council will close major Cardiff roads overnight from October 27 to November 12 for resurfacing, with some routes affected across multiple nights. The work runs from 8pm to 5am on most nights, and drivers have been advised to allow extra travel time.

Signed diversion routes will guide traffic around the affected roads. The closures may disrupt evening and overnight journeys across the city, including on the A470 Northern Avenue and Cathedral Road.

Major Cardiff road closures begin on October 27

Three routes are scheduled to close from Tuesday, October 27, until the morning of Wednesday, October 28: Manor Way southbound between Birchgrove Road and Merthyr Road; Caerphilly Road northbound from Merthyr Road for approximately 115 metres; and North Road Flyover northbound between North Road and Caerphilly Road.

On Wednesday, October 28, closures move to A470 Northern Avenue and Pantmawr Road. The northbound stretch of A470 Northern Avenue will close from Tyn-y-Parc Road to the Coryton Interchange slip road, while its southbound stretch will close from the slip road to Tyn-y-Parc Road. Pantmawr Road will also close between the A470 Northern Avenue junction and Caer Wenallt.

Cyncoed Road, between Celyn Avenue and Cefn Coed Road, is scheduled for overnight closures on Thursday, October 29, and Friday, October 31. The source does not specify the closure hours for those individual nights beyond describing them as overnight.

Cathedral Road closures continue into November

Bridge Road in Llandaff will close overnight between Cardiff Road and Mary Street on Monday, November 2, and Tuesday, November 3. A separate run of overnight restrictions is listed from Monday, November 2, until Thursday, November 12, usually between 8pm and 5am each evening.

That extended schedule affects Cathedral Road in both directions, from its junction with Cowbridge Road East to Plas-Tirion Place. On Thursday, November 5, the closure is due to start later, at 9.30pm, and remain in place until 5am.

The schedule means motorists may need to change routes for several journeys, rather than just a single night. The council’s signed diversions are intended to help traffic move across Cardiff while resurfacing crews work, but the reporting advises drivers to leave extra time.

Wales Online reported the closure schedule and travel warning. Its report says the resurfacing programme runs until Thursday, November 12, with the Cathedral Road restrictions listed through that date.
