Tom’s Guide says its i’ve tested iphone duo comparison gives Apple’s first foldable an edge in display brightness, battery life and chipset performance, while Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 offers stronger multitasking and AI utility. The review also tested Google’s Pixel 11 Pro Fold, Motorola’s Razr Fold and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
Getting one may be difficult. Tom’s Guide reports thin inventory and shipping delays since the iPhone Duo became available, even as its initial reception has been strong.
i’ve tested iphone duo against Samsung
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the closest match in the review, with a similarly wide, passport-like shape that opens into a mini tablet with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Tom’s Guide says Samsung’s phone costs $100 less than the Duo.
In the publication’s comparison, the iPhone Duo delivered a brighter display, longer battery life and stronger chipset performance. Tom’s Guide also awarded Apple’s device a decisive win in its camera shootout.
That lead does not carry over to every task. The review found Google Gemini on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 more capable than Siri AI for complex actions involving apps. One example cited was placing a Dunkin’ Donuts order through DoorDash.
Samsung also has a clear productivity advantage. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 can run three active windows side by side, while Samsung DeX provides a desktop computing environment when the phone is connected to an external display. The iPhone Duo mirrors its screen instead, limiting its usefulness as a workstation, according to the review.
The Ultra’s camera and battery case
Tom’s Guide says the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra expands on the base model’s strengths, but its $2,099 price tag demands a larger commitment. Its dedicated 10MP telephoto camera offers 3x optical zoom, which the review says produces cleaner long-range photos than the iPhone Duo or standard Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Those two competing phones rely on digital sensor crops for magnification, according to Tom’s Guide. The Ultra’s optical lens gives it an advantage in sharpness and detail when zooming.
The review also points to the Ultra’s 5,000 mAh battery and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. Tom’s Guide reports strong CPU and GPU benchmark figures and says the phone’s power efficiency helps it outlast nearly every foldable on the market.
Its rigid hinge supports Flex Mode, which splits app interfaces when the phone is propped open on a desk. That design, along with the camera and battery, gives the Ultra a distinct pitch for buyers who value zoom photography and long runtime.
The choice between the standard Duo and Galaxy Z Fold 8 depends on priorities, Tom’s Guide says: Apple’s phone is stronger for cameras and battery life, while Samsung’s offers more software productivity. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is priced at $2,099.
