Apple Home Robot Delay Puts $1,000 Price in Doubt

Apple’s coming 2027 apple’s $1,000 home robot may not arrive until 2028, as its software team pushes for more time before launch. The rumored tabletop device is designed for FaceTime calls and home tasks such as switching on a light.

The hardware has reportedly been finished for around two years, but the software is not ready. The delay puts the timing and scope of Apple’s home robot in question, while a reported price of around $1,000—or potentially more—would place it well above the company’s HomeView smart display.

The software team has reportedly proposed cutting back some planned features and concentrating on a smaller set of capabilities. Those include FaceTime and automating home tasks. The Information said the team pushed to delay the launch; the device could arrive next year at the earliest or possibly in 2028.

What features could Apple’s home robot offer?

The device is described as having a 9-inch display that swivels on a robotic arm. Cameras and sensors could help it follow a person during a FaceTime call, according to the reported product details.

That design would give the screen some movement during calls rather than leaving it fixed in one position. The proposed home controls are more restrained: switching on a light is one example of the tasks the software team wants the robot to handle.

There is a practical difference between finished hardware and a product ready to sell. Apple’s reported software delay could affect which functions make the final device, as the team has sought to strip back proposed features and focus on a few capabilities.

Why is the launch timing uncertain?

Apple has reportedly delayed the launch until next year at the earliest, with 2028 also a possibility. The device is codenamed J595, while former Apple employees predict it could be called HomeView Ultra, following the HomeView smart display launched last month.

The reported price is around $1,000 and could be higher depending on price increases for RAM and other components. That estimate is not presented as a final retail price. For households considering a screen for calls and basic home automation, the gap between the HomeView display and a robot priced above $1,000 could make the cost a central question, especially if its launch features are narrowed.

The robot’s tabletop form has previously been described as resembling Pixar’s famous lamp. The current reported specifications point to a 9-inch screen mounted on a swiveling robotic arm, with cameras and sensors intended to support FaceTime calls.

Apple has not been reported to have settled on a launch date. The earliest possible window is next year; 2028 remains another possibility.
