Three women injured after caravan breaks free and hits pavement in Lancashire

Three women were hurt after a caravan broke loose from a Range Rover and ran onto a pavement in Skelmersdale, northwest England, leaving two teenagers with serious injuries and prompting a police arrest. The crash happened on Wednesday night at Beechtrees, and officers are now asking for witnesses and footage.
Vehicle fled scene
Lancashire Police said they were called at about 20:30 BST after reports that a dark blue Range Rover Vogue towing a caravan had come apart. The caravan struck two 18-year-old women on the pavement.
A woman in her 30s was then hit as the vehicle left the scene. Short, brutal. She suffered minor injuries.
The two teenagers were taken to hospital with serious injuries. One remained in hospital, while the other has since been discharged, according to police reporting cited by local outlets.
Arrest after the collision
A 44-year-old man from Rotherham was later arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and assault. Police said he has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
Officers traced the Range Rover to West Yorkshire after the incident. That detail matters. It may help investigators piece together the route the vehicle took after the crash and whether anyone saw the caravan detach before it mounted the pavement.
Lancashire Police have appealed for information, including dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage from the area.
Road-tow failures under scrutiny
Caravans and other towed loads can become deadly projectiles when couplings fail or loads are not secured properly. Similar roadside mishaps have caused serious injuries elsewhere, including a separate crash in Minnesota reported this week in which a camper top flew through a windshield and severely injured a woman.
In Skelmersdale, officers are still trying to establish the full sequence of events. Anyone who saw the incident at Beechtrees, or who has footage from around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, has been asked to contact police.
“Our officers were called to Beechtrees at 8.30pm on Wednesday following reports that three people had been injured,” Lancashire Police said in an appeal for witnesses and video.
