JAKARTA — Indonesian authorities have launched an intensive search operation in the Sunda Strait following the disappearance of five journalists covering the volcanic eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) has formally demanded that relevant agencies maximize resources to locate the missing crew, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, deputy speaker of the House, expressed the institution’s deep concern regarding the incident. “First, we express our profound concern for our journalist colleagues whose whereabouts remain unknown at this time,” Dasco stated at the Parliament Complex in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026.
Dasco emphasized that the legislative body is maintaining active oversight of the rescue mission. “We have urged the relevant agencies and are actively monitoring the efforts being made to ensure that the status of our colleagues can be determined as soon as possible,” he added.
