Two Charged After Ute Pursuit Ends on Sydney Golf Course

Two people were charged after a police pursuit involving a ute ended on a Sydney golf course on Saturday night, with police later arresting the pair after a second chase in the Eastern Suburbs. The incidents began when the driver allegedly failed to stop for a roadside breath test in Malabar.

The black ute allegedly reached 100km/h—double the speed limit—and drove on the wrong side of the road before entering The Cost Golf and Recreation Club in Little Bay. The driver and a passenger abandoned the vehicle on a fairway and ran away.

The case now involves two alleged pursuits, a vehicle left on a golf course and charges against a 38-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman. Both were refused bail and were due to appear in court today.

How did the ute pursuit end?

Police called off the first chase after the ute sped into the golf and recreation club. The vehicle was left on one of the fairways, while its driver and passenger fled on foot.

The sequence began at about 7.15 pm, when the driver allegedly failed to stop for a roadside RBT on Anzac Parade in Malabar. Police allege the ute then sped and travelled on the wrong side of the road.

The pursuit did not end there.

At 8pm, police say they spotted the driver in a different vehicle, a white hatchback, travelling along Anzac Parade in Little Bay. When the driver allegedly failed to stop, officers began a second pursuit, which continued onto Solarch Avenue, a one-way street.

Police allege the driver tried to reverse out and hit a police car. No one was injured, and the police vehicle sustained minor damage.

What charges do the two people face?

The 38-year-old man faces multiple charges, including failing to stop during a police pursuit, dangerous driving, reckless driving and speeding in a dangerous manner. The 45-year-old woman was charged with hindering or resisting a police officer in the execution of duty.

The alleged conduct carries immediate consequences for the people involved: both were refused bail, with a court appearance due today. Police allegations about the driving and the collision have not been established as findings in court.

The two pursuits also involved different vehicles. Police say the first was a black ute, which was abandoned at the golf course; the driver was later seen in a white hatchback. The reported speed during the first incident was 100km/h, described as double the speed limit.

The arrests followed the second pursuit on Solarch Avenue, where the white hatchback allegedly struck a police car, causing minor damage and no injuries.
