BANDUNG, JOURNALARTA.COM – West Java Police have officially issued a wanted notice, or DPO, for Taufik Hidayat, 30, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. The man is a suspect in a case of severe abuse and unlawful confinement involving his girlfriend, YTR, 29, in a boarding house in Cinunuk Village, Cileunyi District, Bandung Regency.
The victim is now being treated at Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital (RSHS) Bandung with injuries across several parts of her body caused by prolonged violence. The suspect fled and has not been arrested.
West Java Police Confirm DPO Status
West Java Police Public Relations Head Kombes Pol Hendra Rochmawan confirmed the DPO issuance. “Yes,” Hendra said briefly when asked about a poster of Taufik Hidayat that has circulated.
West Java Police have formed a special team to hunt for Taufik. The team is also coordinating with the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, or Bareskrim, and widening the probe into the suspect’s digital trail as well as possible involvement in other cases. Taufik is said to have once worked as a debt collector.
Hendra also asked all parties, including the media, not to seek statements directly from YTR. He said the request was intended to keep the investigation running smoothly and prevent any disturbance to the victim’s psychological condition. West Java Police are working with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency, or LPSK, to accompany YTR throughout the legal process.
The Victim Had Been Out of Reach Since 2023
The painful story began long before police stepped in. YTR’s family started having trouble reaching her in 2023. They believed YTR was fine and last knew she was living in the Pasteur area of Bandung.
The family had tried searching through social media. But YTR later asked that the search posts be taken down. Police suspect that the communication happened under pressure and supervision from Taufik, not of the victim’s own free will.
A breakthrough came on June 10, 2026. YTR’s father received a call from an unknown number. The caller said YTR was being treated at RSHS Bandung and claimed she had been in a motorcycle accident. But after the family arrived and saw her condition, it became clear the injuries were not the result of an ordinary crash.
The victim suffered severe physical abuse over a long period. Injuries were found on several parts of her body.
Possible Charges Against Taufik
West Java Police have not formally announced the charges yet. But based on the structure of repeated abuse and confinement, Taufik could be charged under Article 351 of the Criminal Code on assault, which carries a maximum sentence of five years, as well as Article 333 on unlawful deprivation of liberty or confinement, which carries a heavier penalty of up to eight years.
If the relationship meets the elements under the Domestic Violence Eradication Law, the punishment could be even harsher. A dating relationship over a certain period may fall under that law, depending on the assessment of investigators and prosecutors.
West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan is expected to provide the next update on the case.
Public Asked to Report the Suspect’s Whereabouts
West Java Police have asked residents who recognize or spot Taufik Hidayat to report him immediately to the 110 hotline or to the nearest police station. Police stressed that no one should take the law into their own hands.
The case is a reminder that violence in intimate relationships often unfolds in silence, with the victim isolated, the family kept in the dark, and the perpetrator free to move around. Then one anonymous call changes everything.
The presumption of innocence still applies until a court issues a final and binding ruling.
