JAKARTA, JOURNALARTA.COM – Pro Jurnalis Media Siber (PJS) will hold its third National Congress on July 21-24, 2026, in Jakarta, with one major target: winning recognition as a Dewan Pers constituent. The organization’s highest forum is no routine meeting.
Munas III carries the theme “Integrity in the Press, Dignified Nation, Strong Democracy,” and its substance speaks directly to the urgent needs of Indonesia’s cyber journalism sector, which is now confronting a wave of disinformation and brutal digital content competition.
Consolidation from Sabang to Merauke
Over the past few years, PJS has grown at a fairly rapid pace. Leadership structures have been formed across provinces, regencies, and cities. That growth has been matched by journalism training programs, efforts to deepen understanding of the Journalistic Code of Ethics, and various steps to improve members’ capacity.
The head of the PJS Bangka Belitung Provincial Board, Rikky Fermana, called Munas III a historic moment. No exaggeration. If achieved, Dewan Pers constituent status would become both formal legitimacy and a stronger position for PJS within Indonesia’s press ecosystem.
“The Third National Congress is a historic moment for the entire PJS family. Becoming a Dewan Pers constituent will be an important milestone in strengthening the existence of professional and integrity-based cyber media,” Rikky said on Monday (6/22/2026).
According to Rikky, the drive to become a Dewan Pers constituent is not only the agenda of the central board. It is a collective hope shared by members across the country.
Real Challenges in the Digital Era
Rikky did not overlook the dramatically changed media landscape. Information technology has not only accelerated news distribution, but also opened wide space for hoaxes and low-quality content circulating across digital platforms.
That is why the presence of a strong press organization matters. Not just a place to gather, but a guardian of standards.
“The press has a strategic role as a pillar of democracy. The presence of a strong, professional, and integrity-driven press organization is essential to ensure the public receives information that is true, accurate, and accountable,” Rikky said.
He also noted that future Dewan Pers recognition would be more than an administrative stamp. The status would strengthen PJS’s legitimacy in encouraging the birth of journalists who are competent, independent, and responsible amid commercial and political pressures that often threaten newsroom space.
Call for Solidarity Among Babel Members
Rikky specifically urged PJS members in Bangka Belitung to maintain unity ahead of the congress. Regional solidarity, he said, is the foundation of organizational strength at the national level.
The push toward Dewan Pers, in essence, is a shared effort to protect the dignity of the journalism profession, improve cyber media quality, and reinforce the press as a healthy pillar of democracy.
“This is a shared struggle to realize an integrity-based press, a dignified nation, and a stronger democracy,” he stressed.
PJS is optimistic that the Jakarta congress will open a new chapter. With a nationwide network already in place and a track record of member empowerment programs, the organization hopes to leave the July forum as a more established press body and one step closer to the Dewan Pers door.
