MG Launches ZS Hybrid+ in Indonesia with Unique 3-Speed DHT
MG Motor Indonesia officially releases the MG ZS Hybrid+ SUV, introducing a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission to the Indonesian market.

JAKARTA — MG Motor Indonesia officially entered the compact SUV hybrid market on Wednesday (July 15, 2026), launching the MG ZS Hybrid+. The vehicle combines a traditional gasoline engine with an electric motor, marking a strategic expansion of the brand's electrified lineup in Southeast Asia's largest economy.
This launch follows a teaser debut at the 2025 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). It targets consumers seeking fuel efficiency without the reliance on dedicated charging infrastructure required by battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
The ZS Hybrid+ enters a crowded segment with notable physical dimensions: a length of 4,430 mm, a width of 1,818 mm, and a height of 1,635 mm. Its 2,610 mm wheelbase gives it a larger footprint than its primary competitors. It sits 75 mm longer than the Honda HR-V RS e:HEV and 120 mm longer than the Toyota Yaris Cross HEV.
Transmission Breakthrough
The vehicle's core technology sets it apart from rivals. While most compact hybrid SUVs utilize a single-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), MG has opted for a 3-speed DHT. This marks the first time this configuration has been offered in the segment within Indonesia, aimed at optimizing power delivery between the 1,500 cc four-cylinder gasoline engine and the 136-horsepower electric motor.
The powertrain delivers a peak torque of 250 Nm. MG executives believe this mechanical setup offers a more dynamic driving experience, particularly when transitioning between electric-only mode and parallel hybrid operation.
"The arrival of the MG ZS Hybrid+ is the next step in expanding MG's portfolio in Indonesia, providing more choices for consumers to find vehicles that match their mobility needs," said Jason Huang, CEO of MG Motor Indonesia, during the official launch event.
Safety and Market Positioning
Beyond the engine, MG is pushing safety as a selling point. The SUV is equipped with 15 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features and seven airbags. The vehicle holds a five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), a benchmark often cited in global safety standards.
The SUV market in Indonesia has seen intense competition as manufacturers rush to offer hybrid alternatives to internal combustion engines. With its larger dimensions and unconventional transmission, MG aims to disrupt established players who currently dominate the domestic sales charts.
The Head of Product at MG Motor Indonesia noted that the Hybrid+ generation was engineered specifically to handle Indonesia's diverse road conditions. The company is now preparing for nationwide distribution, with initial deliveries expected to gauge whether the 3-speed system resonates with local drivers accustomed to single-speed electric or CVT-based hybrid drivetrains.
