Three teenage boys from one of Sydney's most exclusive private schools face sexual assault charges following the alleged attack on a 14-year-old girl in an eastern suburbs alleyway on July 22.
A 13-year-old and two 14-year-olds, all students at The Scots College in Bellevue Hill, were arrested Thursday after police executed search warrants across the city's east. The school charges year 12 fees exceeding $50,000 annually.
The Charges and Investigation
The two older boys face two counts each of aggravated sexual assault in the company of others and aggravated sexual touching. The 13-year-old was charged with identical offences but in smaller number. Police say the girl and the three boys knew one another and had arranged to meet on the night in question.
During raids on their homes, detectives seized electronic devices now undergoing forensic analysis. Officers also recovered two replica firearms, a Glock-style BB gun, three laser pointers, and a number plate believed to have been stolen. All three boys were released on conditional bail Thursday and must appear in Surry Hills Children's Court on August 25.
School's Silence Fuels Questions
The Scots College has declined to address whether the students will face suspension, when it learned of the alleged assault, or what safety measures it plans to implement. In a brief statement, the school said it was cooperating with police and taking the matter seriously—then cited the ongoing investigation as reason to say nothing more.
The school's refusal to comment comes as parents have begun expressing alarm over what they describe as a culture of toxic masculinity within the institution. The case has intensified scrutiny of how elite private schools in Australia handle serious misconduct allegations and pastoral care responsibilities.
Detectives are examining CCTV footage from the evening of the alleged assault. All three boys are due back in court within two weeks.
