Google has unveiled its new Pixel 11 smartphone lineup, placing its most agentic version of Gemini AI at the center of the devices. The launch positions Google to compete directly in the smartphone market just weeks before Apple is expected to roll out a rebuilt Siri powered by Google's own artificial intelligence models.

The new device family includes the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and the foldable Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Rather than relying solely on raw hardware specifications, Google is centering its hardware pitch on Gemini Intelligence. This suite of artificial intelligence features is designed to understand user activity across the phone and execute tasks across different applications.

Agentic Gemini AI Built Into Android 17

Google is expanding AI features that run directly inside the phone's operating system, moving away from standalone chatbot apps. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is the first device to ship with Android 17. The software integration allows the phone to process Gemini Actions and Magic Capture natively on the device.

Gemini Intelligence can connect information from messages, calendars, maps, and other Google services. The assistant can then suggest or carry out next steps, such as checking availability, comparing travel options, or starting a restaurant reservation.

Rick Osterloh, Google's devices chief, told CNBC that the Pixel and iPhone are moving in "very different directions" as Google doubles down on unique Android features. Osterloh suggested that Gemini AI could eventually become the primary way people use their phones, laptops, and other devices.

"For the last 10 to 15 years, not a lot has changed in how you use laptops and mobile phones," Osterloh said. "But we think that's about to change dramatically." He described the system as a totally new way to interact with a computer, using agentic capabilities to get things done rather than just finding information.

Hardware Baseline and Rising Component Costs

The hardware design of the Pixel 11 Pro Fold offers iterative updates rather than a complete overhaul. It introduces tougher exterior materials, an IP68 dust and water resistance rating, and a new camera system. The camera setup features a 50-megapixel main lens, a 48-megapixel telephoto lens, and improved light sensitivity.

Processing is powered by the Google-designed Tensor G6 chip. While the G6 shows processing improvements and handles low-light camera tasks well, benchmarks show it still lags behind some competitors. Google has optimized the silicon specifically to handle on-device AI tasks rather than raw speed.

This hardware strategy allows Google to establish a baseline for mobile AI without directly threatening hardware partners like Samsung. However, supply chain pressures are impacting the hardware division. Osterloh noted that a global memory shortage is forcing consumer electronics prices higher, and Google expects it will need to raise prices further in the future.

Gemini AI Trades Real-World Energy Stocks

The deployment of Gemini AI extends beyond consumer smartphones into automated financial trading. On the Rallies platform, which allows AI models to trade with real money using real-time financial data, the Gemini AI model added NextEra Energy to its active stock portfolio.

The AI portfolio purchased 60 additional shares of the utility company, bringing its total holding to 514 shares. Gemini acquired the shares at prices between $84 and $86.35 per share.

The AI model framed its investment decision around a "stagflation-lite" macroeconomic environment, citing NextEra's regulated business model, pricing power, and an 11% return on equity. NextEra operates Florida Power & Light, which serves approximately 6 million customers, and recently expanded its footprint by acquiring Symmetry Energy Solutions.
