Apple has locked in Wednesday, September 9 for its iPhone 18 keynote, marking the official start of the company's new product cycle. The event will unfold at 10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park, Cupertino, California.

The announcement comes after Apple sent press invites on August 26 with the cryptic phrase "Surprise and Shine," confirming what analysts had predicted for months. The timing breaks no new ground — Apple has never held an iPhone event the day after Labor Day, and this year is no exception.

What to Expect in September

The keynote will kick off with a live introduction from John Ternus, Apple's newly appointed CEO as of September 1, replacing Tim Cook, who moves to Executive Chairman. According to Bloomberg, Apple may deviate from its usual playbook by splitting the iPhone 18 launch across two events. The September 9 reveal will focus on the premium tier: iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the company's first foldable device, reportedly called the iPhone Ultra. The standard iPhone 18, iPhone Air 2, and lower-end iPhone 18E are expected around March 2027, a shift designed to sustain revenue momentum throughout the year.

The foldable device has garnered the most attention. Despite manufacturing hurdles reported earlier, the iPhone Ultra remains on track for September debut, though early availability may be limited to the U.S. market at launch.

Price Tag Reality Check

Consumers expecting a flat price point are in for a jolt. All iPhone 18 models will cost $100 more than their predecessors, according to sources familiar with Apple's plans. The iPhone 18 Pro could start at $1,199, a steep climb driven by surging RAM and NAND memory chip costs.

Apple attempted to absorb these costs internally but found the margins unsustainable. The company raised prices on Mac and iPad lines in June for the same reason — rising memory expenses. By passing the $100 increase to consumers, Apple positions itself in line with Samsung and Google, which have already hiked their own flagship prices, reducing the sting of being alone in the market at a premium.

Loyal Apple users have historically tolerated price increases, and industry observers note the $100 bump remains conservative compared to some competitors charging $2,000 and above for flagship models.

Cosmetic and Hardware Details

Expect two new color options: cherry red and light blue, reported by multiple sources though not yet official. The iPhone 18 Pro's chipset is tipped to deliver an 18 percent speed boost over the current generation, while the Pro Max is rumored to be the only model sporting a variable-aperture camera—a feature that adjusts dynamically to light conditions. iPhone 17 Pro cases may carry over to the iPhone 18 Pro, suggesting a familiar industrial design.

Apple will also use the September event to unveil the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, its typical wearables stage. The company pre-announced new M5 and M6 Mac chips and a refreshed Mac Mini on August 25, clearing those from the keynote agenda.

The event typically runs one to two hours and concludes with a parade of product demos, technical deep-dives, and performance metrics designed to justify the price premium. Preorders are expected to follow shortly after the keynote wraps.
