Pertamina Expands Relief Efforts Following Flash Floods in West Sumatra
Pertamina Patra Niaga delivers school supplies and food aid to Solok flood victims, supporting recovery efforts as the emergency response period continues.

SOLOK, Indonesia — State-owned energy firm Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Northern Sumatra (Sumbagut) expanded its relief operations in Solok Regency, West Sumatra, delivering a second wave of humanitarian aid on Oct. 2, 2026, to communities displaced by devastating flash floods, locally known as "galodo."
The latest deployment focuses on long-term recovery needs and immediate support for relief workers. The package includes school supplies for children displaced by the disaster, essential groceries, and nutritional supplements for the emergency task force operating at the Batang Barus command post. This initiative follows the region's initial struggle to restore normalcy after the deluge struck in late September.
The local government implemented a 14-day emergency response status starting Sept. 22, which is scheduled to conclude on Oct. 5, 2026. Officials are currently evaluating whether to extend this period based on ongoing site assessments and the pace of infrastructure restoration.
Official Recognition of Relief Efforts
Solok Regent Jon Firman Pandu expressed his gratitude for the company's sustained intervention during the official handover ceremony. He highlighted the importance of targeting vulnerable groups, specifically students needing to return to their studies, alongside the operational support provided to volunteers on the ground. "Pertamina is truly showing they care," Pandu stated, acknowledging the company's role as a vital partner in the recovery process.
This support arrives at a critical juncture for the district. The coordination between private enterprise and local administration remains a pillar of the recovery strategy, ensuring that resources reach the most impacted zones efficiently.
Corporate Social Responsibility Beyond Energy
Fahrougi Andriani Sumampouw, Area Manager for Communication, Relations, and Corporate Social Responsibility at Pertamina Patra Niaga Sumbagut, emphasized that the company’s mission extends beyond fuel distribution. The relief efforts are designed to alleviate immediate suffering while reinforcing the relationship between the energy provider and the local community.
"Every recovery initiative is a testament to our commitment to environmental and social responsibility within our operational regions," Sumampouw said. This strategy aligns with the firm’s philosophy that local resilience directly impacts the strength of the communities in which they operate.
National Oversight and Next Steps
The severity of the disaster has drawn attention from central government authorities. On Oct. 1, 2026, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto visited the emergency command post in Solok to assess the requirements for long-term rehabilitation. He confirmed that the central government is prepared to provide comprehensive backing, specifically regarding the deployment of heavy machinery for land clearing and physical site normalization.
The Ministry of Home Affairs is currently facilitating inter-agency coordination to ensure that manpower and logistics remain stable until the recovery phase is finalized. As the Solok Regency prepares a potential seven-day extension to the emergency status, the combined efforts of the private sector and federal agencies aim to provide a cohesive path forward for the residents of the affected regions.
