MSP Wins PROPER Gold and Green Leadership Awards
MSP PROPER Gold highlights cleaner smelter operations, emissions cuts, and community gains from its environmental programs.
JAKARTA — MSP Wins PROPER Gold and Green Leadership Awards from Environment Ministry after PT Mitra Stania Prima and ARSARI Tambang were honored at the PROPER Environmental Awards at Sasono Langen Budoyo, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, on Tuesday, July 4, 2026.
The Ministry of Environment handed MSP the 2025 PROPER Gold award, while ARSARI Tambang President Director Aryo P. S. Djojohadikusumo received the Green Leadership PROPER award. The recognition matters for Indonesia’s mining sector, where regulators keep pressing companies to prove they can cut emissions, manage waste, and still run competitive operations.
What the award means for MSP
MSP said the award reflects environmental management that goes beyond basic compliance. The company operates in tin mining, processing, and refining, with its main base in the Air Kantung Industrial and Port Area, Jelitik Village, Sungailiat District, Bangka Regency.
Since 2013, MSP has mined in the Mapur area while building an integrated production chain that stretches from upstream extraction to refined tin ingots. The company runs two electric furnaces and produces MSP-branded tin ingots registered with the London Metal Exchange, the global benchmark used in metals trading.
That global link matters. Aryo said all MSP products are exported, and the company faces customers with strict environmental demands.
“We really apply world standards because 100 percent of MSP’s products are exported overseas, such as Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia, all of which apply high environmental standards,” Aryo said at the ceremony.
He added that PROPER Gold signals the company has met a higher environmental benchmark in Indonesia. The score is not based on paperwork alone. It also weighs innovation, measurable emission cuts, energy efficiency, waste handling, and social programs that can be checked in the field.
Cleaner energy in the smelter
MSP said one of its key steps has been switching from diesel to electricity based on Renewable Energy Certificates, or REC PLN. The company also uses green electricity furnaces in tin processing to improve efficiency and reduce emissions from smelter operations.
It has changed production systems too. MSP moved from reverberatory furnaces to electric furnaces, replaced fossil-fuel burners with electric systems, and optimized overhead cranes so the plant relies less on fuel-powered forklifts. Small shifts, but they add up.
The company has also entered carbon value schemes through carbon trading. MSP bought 1,000 kg of CO2 equivalent registered in the National Registry System for Climate Change Control, known as SRN PPI. It combines REC electricity and B35 biodiesel as part of its transition plan, with Aryo saying the next target is to expand clean energy use in the smelter.
“God willing, next year we are targeting 100 percent renewable energy use in the smelter,” Aryo said.
Community programs and the broader stakes
MSP also highlighted its social programs under the ARSARI Program, built around a circular-economy model. Coconut waste is turned into biochar and liquid smoke through closed-combustion retort technology, creating a new income stream for nearby residents.
The company said four community groups in the program saw monthly income rise by an average of Rp1.5 million to Rp1.9 million. It also said the innovation reduced emissions from 115 tons to 35 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent and helped support rehabilitation of a 72-hectare watershed area.
That is the part with direct impact for people living around mining sites. Cleaner air, lower pollution risk, and extra household income all land on the same community, and they help explain why environmental awards now carry more weight than a trophy on a shelf. For residents, a stronger smelter standard can mean fewer complaints about smoke, tighter controls on waste, and more pressure on the company to keep showing results instead of slogans.
MSP said it plans to extend the same sustainability approach to its upstream mining areas. In an industry still watched closely for reclamation, water use, emissions, and social impact, the company framed the award as a marker on the road, not the finish line. Aryo said the goal is to keep operations clean enough that business growth does not come at the cost of the environment, while communities around the mine continue to feel the benefit.
