PANGKALPINANG, JOURNALARTA.COM – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a Moderate-to-Heavy Rain Watch for the entire Bangka Belitung Islands on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. The warning covers all seven regencies and cities in the province, along with the potential for lightning, thunder, and strong winds.

This is not the first day. Bangka Belitung has been on alert for three straight days, on June 21, 22, and 23, 2026, a sign that the atmosphere over the region remains unstable. For residents living along riverbanks or in hilly areas, this warning deserves extra attention.

What the Watch Means

The BMKG watch is not just a routine forecast note. It signals that severe weather could already bring meaningful impacts, from flooding and flash floods to landslides in vulnerable areas and falling trees.

Weather across Bangka Belitung on June 23 is expected to range from cloudy to rainy. Air temperature in coastal areas is forecast between 24 and 32 degrees Celsius, with humidity at a high 75 to 95 percent. Moist air like this helps build convective clouds that can trigger heavy rain in a short time.

BMKG issued the warning through its Three-Day Extreme Weather Potential channel. For hourly and district-level forecasts, separate data is available on BMKG’s official page at bmkg.go.id in the Bangka Belitung weather forecast section.

All Areas in Bangka Belitung Are Covered

The alert applies to all seven administrative areas in the province: Pangkalpinang City, Bangka Regency (Sungailiat), Belitung Regency (Tanjungpandan), South Bangka Regency (Toboali), East Belitung Regency (Manggar), West Bangka Regency (Muntok), and Central Bangka Regency (Koba).

Every one of those areas falls under the same status. None of Bangka Belitung’s districts or cities has been exempted from the warning.

Areas along the coast and surrounding waters deserve special attention. The Bangka Strait and Karimata Strait may see high waves. Fishermen and shipping operators are being asked to delay sea activities if wave conditions worsen.

Risks Residents Should Watch

Heavy rain brings different risks depending on the terrain. In low-lying areas and along riverbanks, the main threat is flooding. In hilly zones and former mining sites, which are common in Bangka due to mining activity, landslides can occur quickly if heavy rain falls for a long period.

Falling trees are another real danger, especially along roads and in dense neighborhoods. Strong winds that accompany heavy rain are often the cause.

Advice for Residents in Bangka Belitung

BMKG urges residents to avoid sheltering under large trees or billboards during rain and wind. For people living in flood-prone areas, preparing emergency supplies now is far better than scrambling once floodwaters arrive.

For fishermen and sea transport users, check wave conditions before heading out. Postpone departure if BMKG information shows high waves in the waters around Bangka Belitung.

Follow weather updates every three hours through the Info BMKG app or directly on bmkg.go.id. Hourly and city-level data are available there and updated regularly, offering a more detailed picture than today’s provincial-level warning.

Three straight days in alert status are a reminder that this season’s weather in Bangka Belitung should not be taken lightly.
