JAKARTA, JOURNALARTA.COM – Fourteen areas in Indonesia are under a watch for moderate to heavy rain on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, according to BMKG’s 3-Day Extreme Weather Potential Forecast. Bali and South Sulawesi face a more serious warning because heavy rain may come with strong winds.
The main risks are hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, flash floods, landslides, and falling trees for residents in affected areas. BMKG has asked the public not to ignore the warning, especially those living in landslide-prone zones and low-lying areas.
Which Areas Are Under Warning?
In Sumatra, six provinces are under watch: Aceh, North Sumatra, Bengkulu, Jambi, Riau, and West Sumatra. All are at risk of moderate to heavy rain throughout the day.
Bali is the only area in the Java-Bali cluster under warning. Conditions there are more severe than in other areas because strong winds are also expected. West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta Special Region, and East Java are not on the warning list for June 23, as weather is forecast to be cloudy to light rain.
In Kalimantan, three provinces are on alert: West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan. South Kalimantan and North Kalimantan are not included in today’s warning. Coastal residents in Kalimantan are still advised to watch for high waves.
Sulawesi has three affected provinces. Central Sulawesi and Gorontalo are under a watch for moderate to heavy rain. South Sulawesi faces a more complex situation, with heavy rain and strong winds. North Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi are not included in the warning.
West Papua is the only province in the Papua cluster under watch for moderate to heavy rain. Highland Papua, South Papua, and Central Papua have no special warning today.

National Temperature and General Conditions
Overall, Indonesia is expected to be dominated by thick clouds and rain today. National air temperatures range from 24 to 33 degrees Celsius, with relative humidity between 65 and 95 percent. UV Index in several areas is in the high to very high category, so people who remain outdoors during clear weather are still advised to protect their skin.
Palembang, the capital of South Sumatra, has a relatively calmer forecast: cloudy skies, temperatures of 24-32ยฐC, and only a 20 percent chance of rain. The city is not on today’s watch list.
Jakarta is also not under warning today.
What Residents in Affected Areas Should Do
BMKG uses two warning levels. Watch means residents should prepare for possible hydrometeorological disasters. Alert is one level higher and signals greater risk and the need for stronger preparedness.
For areas under warning today, BMKG has issued several concrete recommendations. Monitor weather updates regularly through bmkg.go.id or the Info BMKG app. Postpone activities in landslide-prone areas and riverbanks when heavy rain falls. Stay away from large trees and billboards when strong winds are blowing. Prepare emergency supplies if your home is in a disaster-prone zone.
BMKG weather forecasts are dynamic and updated every three hours. The data in this report refers to the latest BMKG 3-Day Extreme Weather Potential update as of June 23, 2026. For more specific forecasts by city or regency, check BMKG’s website for each province.
“People in areas under warning are urged to keep monitoring the latest weather information from BMKG,” the agency said in its official release.
