On Friday, Trump was set to appear in Nassau County with County Executive Bruce Blakeman, a close ally who is running for governor against Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul.
The visit comes with a political edge. Trump’s presence on Long Island is expected to energize local Republicans and reinforce Blakeman’s profile at a time when he trails Hochul by 10 points in the latest Siena poll. It also underlines a broader problem for Trump’s party in New York: even with the former president on stage, the map remains stubbornly hard for Republicans to crack.
Security tight, traffic slower
Authorities have warned of street closures and heavy traffic in Garden City, Mineola and Uniondale as Trump visits the newly established Nassau County Police Department training center. Blakeman and Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder said details of the closures would not be released for security reasons.

The event was billed around law enforcement, with Blakeman saying he was grateful for Trump’s visit to tour the county’s police training facilities and honor police, sheriff’s officers, probation staff and firefighters. Trump was also expected to speak at the David S. Mack Center for Training and Intelligence in Uniondale.
Blakeman gets the Trump boost
Trump has long backed Blakeman and endorsed him for governor in December, calling him a “FANTASTIC guy” and saying he would have his “Complete and Total Endorsement” in the race. Trump has framed Blakeman as a familiar ally and urged Republicans to rally behind him.
At a rally in Rockland County in May, Trump also campaigned for Blakeman and other New York Republicans, attacking Democratic leaders and dismissing the state’s political direction under their control. On Friday, he again used his New York platform to praise law enforcement and tout a drop in violent crime, while pushing support for Blakeman’s bid.
Trump’s appearance came after political analysts said he would likely use the trip to boost Blakeman and other Long Island Republicans. For Nassau County GOP officials, the visit offered a rare high-profile stage. For Blakeman, it was another chance to stand beside the president as he tries to close a double-digit gap against Hochul.
Trump was speaking in the county’s police training complex, where the crowd gathered for a law enforcement event that quickly doubled as a show of party muscle. He left after more than an hour, heading to Marine One en route to New Jersey.
