PlatinumGames Sees Promise in Switch 2, Keeps Bayonetta’s Future Open

As a Bayonetta collaboration brings the series into another game, PlatinumGames has offered no announcement about a new installment. CEO Atsushi Inaba said the studio sees “so much potential” in Nintendo Switch 2, while hinting that he wants to broaden Bayonetta’s character and world.

Inaba made the comments in a Famitsu discussion with Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung Tae. Asked about the work involved in adapting a game for Switch 2’s docked and handheld modes, Inaba said PlatinumGames has not released a title for the console yet. He nonetheless described the hardware as capable of expanding how players enjoy games.

There is no Switch 2 project from PlatinumGames in the comments, and Inaba gave no timetable or details about Bayonetta’s next appearance.

A crossover, not a new game announcement

The discussion took place around the companies’ collaboration for Stellar Blade. The Switch 2 version of Shift Up’s game is due to feature four outfits for protagonist Eve inspired by Bayonetta, timed for the console’s launch in November, according to the reports.

Kim said Shift Up had wanted to work with the Bayonetta series for some time. Developing Stellar Blade for Switch 2 offered what he saw as the right opportunity to approach PlatinumGames. He thanked the studio for approving the collaboration, and the two companies left open the possibility of working together again.

The crossover gives Bayonetta a new presence, but it says little about the franchise’s own plans. Inaba declined to reveal what might come next, asking fans to wait and see what form the character’s future takes.

PlatinumGames’ next move remains unclear

Inaba said he hopes to “expand” Bayonetta as a character and widen her world. That is a signal of interest, not confirmation of a new game. Hideki Kamiya, the series’ creator, left PlatinumGames at the end of 2023; separate reporting says Kamiya believes the franchise will continue.

For now, the clearest near-term Bayonetta news is the Stellar Blade crossover. PlatinumGames has yet to release a game for Switch 2.
