Inter Milan Falls 4-3 to Brugge, Slips to 28th in UCL
Inter Milan lost 4-3 to Club Brugge as Nicolo Tresoldi hit a hat trick. The defeat leaves Inter 28th and still seeking its first league-phase points.

With both teams seeking their first points in the Champions League league phase, Inter Milan’s home defeat carried consequences beyond one night in Milan. Club Brugge won 4-3 at the Giuseppe Meazza on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, leaving Inter without a point and lifting the Belgian side to 18th place.
Inter fell to 28th. Nicolo Tresoldi scored three times for Brugge, and Romeo Vermant also found the net. Lautaro Martinez scored twice for the hosts, with Ange Yoan Bonny adding another, but Inter could not overturn the deficit.
Tresoldi’s hat trick decides seven-goal match
Brugge opened the scoring through Tresoldi before Martinez equalized. Tresoldi struck twice more after halftime to complete his hat trick, and Vermant added a goal as the visitors pulled clear. Inter responded through Martinez and Bonny, but the late push was not enough.
Inter started aggressively. Andy Diouf found space on the right in the fourth minute, but goalkeeper Yann Sommer stopped his shot at the near post. A minute later, Marcus Thuram could not convert Yann Bisseck’s pass in front of goal.
Sommer denied another Inter chance in the 12th minute, saving a Lautaro Martinez shot. The goalkeeper, who previously played for Inter, held firm under pressure. Brugge then added goals after the break, keeping the home side from taking control of the match.
The result reversed Inter’s hopes of using a first win to improve its standing and strengthen its push for a top-eight finish. Both clubs had opened the league phase with defeats: Inter lost 2-1 to Real Madrid, while Brugge fell 3-2 to Aston Villa.
A difficult run in Europe
Inter’s latest loss adds to a poor stretch in the competition. Statistics cited from UEFA show the Italian side has won only once in its last seven Champions League matches, losing the other six. Inter has also suffered three consecutive home defeats in the tournament.
There is a contrasting record when Inter takes the lead at halftime: the club has won its last 18 Champions League matches in that situation. Against Brugge, however, that pattern offered no help as the visitors’ scoring kept Inter chasing the game.
For Brugge, the three points in Milan provide a response after its opening defeat. Inter now needs points in its next match to move out of the lower part of the league-phase standings.
