A south-west London shooting that left a 25-year-old bus driver dead has now been linked to Auguste-Marie Bile-aka Amoa, as police press ahead with a murder inquiry. Officers were called to Willington Road in Clapham just before 10 p.m. BST on Monday after reports of gunfire near The Landor pub.
The Metropolitan Police said Bile-aka Amoa was pronounced dead at the scene. His death has shaken a quiet residential stretch of Clapham North, where forensic teams were still working at the junction of Landor Road and Willington Road on Tuesday and flowers had been left near the pub entrance.
Arrest made after hospital visit
Detectives moved quickly. A 22-year-old man later turned up at hospital with a gunshot wound and was arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in hospital under police guard.
Det Ch Insp Claire Guiver said her thoughts were with the victim’s family as they try to come to terms with what she called a tragic incident. She urged anyone with information, or anyone who was in the area at the time, to contact police. CCTV, dashcam and doorbell footage could all help, she said.
Investigation continues at pace
The force said detectives were working “at pace” to establish the full circumstances of the death, and that urgent inquiries were still under way. Residents nearby said they heard several shots, while police sealed off parts of the street and set up forensic tents as investigators examined the scene.
The killing has added to a run of violent incidents that have put pressure on London police this summer, even as the capital’s streets and public spaces have also carried on with everyday life. On Wednesday, crowds were out in parks and by the river to watch a partial solar eclipse, a brief reminder of how quickly the city can shift from routine to shock.
For now, the focus remains on the same narrow corner of south London. Police are still asking witnesses to come forward, and the 22-year-old suspect stays in hospital under guard.
