JAKARTA — A student from Indonesia won medals in two international English competitions held in September, earning gold at the International Kangaroo Linguistic Contest (IKLC) and silver at the International Cambridge Factor Olympiad (ICFO). Waode Alysha Shanum Tenridio, who attends SMP Muhammadiyah 31 Jakarta, also ranked among the top IKLC participants in Jakarta’s special capital region.

The results give an Indonesian middle school student recognition across two contests with different formats and schedules. The IKLC results were announced on October 3, while ICFO published its results two days later, on October 5, 2026.

Two contests, two formats

ICFO was held online on September 5. Shanum took part in the IKLC in person on September 12 at SMA PB Soedirman in East Jakarta.

The contests drew students from leading schools across Indonesia, according to the report. Their formats meant Shanum had to compete remotely in one event and face an in-person test in the other.

The competitions assessed vocabulary and grammar, as well as language comprehension and reasoning. The tasks tested more than word memorization: participants had to understand English and apply it while solving questions.

Both medals came from contests held within a week of each other. Results, however, arrived weeks later, with the IKLC announcement preceding the ICFO results.

Recognition beyond the medals

Shanum’s IKLC result carried an additional distinction: she was named one of the contest’s top participants in Jakarta’s special capital region. Her ICFO silver added a second international competition award to her September record.

For her school community, the achievement reflects success across two different competition settings and forms of assessment. The regional recognition at IKLC also places her result beyond the medal count alone.

A report about Shanum’s achievement was published on October 6, 2026. It did not identify any upcoming competitions she plans to enter. Her recorded results are gold at IKLC and silver at ICFO, whose outcomes were announced on October 3 and October 5, respectively.
