JAKARTA — Indonesia’s benchmark stock index slid 1.94% on Monday while wildfires disrupted 1,673 scheduled domestic flights over nearly two months, putting pressure on investors and complicating travel across the archipelago.

The Jakarta Composite Index, known locally as the IHSG, lost 117.98 points to close its first trading session at 5,975.78, according to the report. Separately, Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation said wildfire-related disruption affected domestic aviation between Aug. 11 and Oct. 9, 2026.

Stocks fall as rupiah weakens

Decliners outnumbered gainers on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. A total of 537 stocks fell, 159 rose and 95 were unchanged. Trading value reached 6.48 trillion rupiah, with volume of 39.19 billion shares.

The rupiah also weakened, slipping 10 points, or 0.06%, to 17,909 per U.S. dollar. The concurrent moves left both the equity and currency markets lower in Monday’s session, though the report did not identify a cause for either move.

GoTo Gojek Tokopedia, a technology company listed as GOTO, recorded the highest transaction value among individual stocks at 983.48 billion rupiah, with 350.67 million shares traded. Dian Swastatika Sentosa, listed as DSSA, followed with transactions worth 500.10 billion rupiah.

Individual shares moved in different directions. Bhineka Inovasi Ketahanan Energi, listed as BIKE, rose 24.77% to 2,670, the session’s biggest gain reported. Puri Sentul Permai, listed as KDTN, fell 14.83% to 402.

Regional markets were mixed. Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped 0.02%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 1.78% and China’s Shanghai Composite rose 0.05%.

Wildfires disrupt domestic air travel

The ministry counted 1,673 affected scheduled domestic flights during the period. Of those, 907 were canceled or delayed because of limited visibility and operational safety considerations. Another 745 flights were delayed, 15 diverted and six returned to their departure airports.

Wings Air recorded the highest number of cancellations and delays, with 226 flights in that category. Super Air Jet had 158 and Citilink 115. Citilink led the separate count of delayed flights, with 357, followed by NAM Air with 212.

The most significant disruption was reported at several major airports in Kalimantan, including Supadio Airport in Pontianak and Syamsudin Noor Airport in Banjarmasin. The ministry also recorded impacts at locations in Sumatra and Papua. Reduced visibility forced operational decisions to account for flight safety, while leaving passengers facing schedule changes, delays or cancellations.

For travelers, the figures translate into disrupted itineraries and uncertainty over when a journey can proceed. Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation called on airlines to meet affected passengers’ rights, including compensation, rebooking and full ticket refunds in line with applicable regulations.
