Apple’s iOS 27.3 expands Siri across its apps and third-party software, letting users handle more tasks by voice in a developer preview rolling out Tuesday. The beta adds actions such as scheduling messages, editing photos and managing files, while developers can build app skills that combine multiple tasks.

The change could reduce the need to move between screens for routine requests. Siri can now act across apps including Music, Messages, Safari, Reminders and Files, and Apple says users can ask what the assistant can do within each app.

What can Siri do in iOS 27.3?

In Apple’s apps, Siri can create and save Music playlists, schedule iMessages, edit or unsend messages, and respond with emoji reactions. It can also compose Notes with formatting and organize Notes folders.

Photos gains voice commands for favoriting, rotating and editing images, as well as renaming people and pets. In Calendar, Siri can create events with invitees, locations and video-call links. Reminders can now include urgent reminders created through the assistant.

Safari users can ask Siri to create tab groups from a list of URLs, sort tabs, clear browsing history and remove reading-list items. In Journal, the assistant can create entries using text transcription or recorded audio.

Files support brings a broader set of voice-based management actions. Users can retrieve file contents, create files and folders, move files to the trash, organize items by type and rename them. Apple’s expanded integrations also cover Finder, Mail, Maps, Preview, Shortcuts and Weather.

How will third-party apps use Siri?

Apple is opening the new capabilities to third-party developers through the iOS 27.3 Developer Preview. Developers can create “app skills” that combine several actions into one request, and Siri can use personal context, natural-language prompts and on-screen awareness to carry them out.

Apple’s example describes someone requesting a ride through a ride-share app, following its Live Activity while waiting, then asking Siri to change the pickup location. The user would not need to name the app if it is already in the foreground, appears in a Live Activity or is part of the conversation with Siri.

That matters for people who rely on apps beyond Apple’s own services: a single voice request could connect steps that otherwise require opening an app and navigating through its controls. The ride example also shows how an app skill can span a request and a later change, rather than handling only one isolated command.

Apple says users can ask Siri what actions are available in an app. The company had previously offered a smaller set of capabilities to third-party developers, while the new preview extends support across apps.

iOS 27.3 remains in beta testing, and Apple says it will be released publicly later this year.
