Most provinces are set for fine and cool weather. In Gauteng, the weather service forecast morning frost in places, with conditions otherwise fine and cool, though the far north should stay warm.
Cold start on the Highveld
Mpumalanga faces a similar picture. The weather service said morning frost will settle over parts of the Highveld, while the Lowveld should remain fine and cool but warm in places. The warning comes as winter-like conditions hold on in South Africa’s interior, even as other regions stay comparatively mild.
KwaZulu-Natal is the main outlier in an otherwise calm national forecast. The province may see isolated light showers along the north coast during the afternoon. No broader wet spell is expected.
Fine weather elsewhere
The rest of the outlook points to stable conditions. Limpopo, North West and the Free State were all included in the South African Weather Service’s Monday forecast posts, which pointed to fine weather for tomorrow across those provinces. The service also flagged frost in Gauteng and Mpumalanga, underscoring how sharply overnight temperatures can fall in inland areas even when daytime conditions stay manageable.
That contrast matters. In parts of the world where frost is still a late-season surprise, a pre-dawn drop to below zero can catch commuters, farmers and gardeners off guard. In South Africa’s interior, it is a familiar winter pattern, but the numbers still sting.
The coldest reading highlighted for Monday was Standerton’s -7C. That is bitterly cold by any measure, and a reminder that a fine day can begin with a frozen one. By afternoon, though, much of the country should have thawed into a cool, mostly dry Monday.
