Fajar Novario Wins Public Vote for Indonesia’s 81st Anniversary Logo
Graphic designer Fajar Novario has been selected as the designer for Indonesia's 81st Independence Day logo following a first-of-its-kind public vote.

A graphic designer from Padang, West Sumatra, has secured the national spotlight after his work was selected as the official visual identity for Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day. Fajar Novario’s design emerged as the winner following a first-of-its-kind public voting process, marking a shift in how the government selects branding for its annual celebration.
The government officially unveiled the logo at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on June 29, 2026. The chosen theme for this year's commemoration is “Indonesia Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous.” By incorporating a public vote, officials aimed to foster deeper national participation in the selection of the commemorative emblem.
A Decisive Victory
Novario triumphed in the national competition by securing 44.73 percent of the total votes cast. A total of 68,569 citizens participated in the online polling, demonstrating significant public interest in the aesthetic direction of the country’s landmark 81st anniversary.
Deputy Minister of State Secretary Juri Ardianto praised the outcome during the official announcement at the Palace. “Fajar Novario’s work received 44.73 percent of the total votes. Congratulations to Fajar Novario; your work is officially established as the logo for the 81st Anniversary of Indonesia's Independence in 2026,” Ardianto stated.
Visualizing National Identity
The winning logo features the number 81 rendered with dynamic, flowing lines. The design draws inspiration from traditional motifs sourced from various regions across the archipelago. According to government officials, the visual narrative behind the logo emphasizes how cultural diversity serves as the foundation for national sovereignty.
The public interest in the design extended well beyond the initial announcement in June. By August 8 and 9, 2026, digital platforms saw a surge in demand as citizens sought to download the official JPG files for authorized use in personal and professional displays. This widespread engagement highlights the resonance of the imagery as it began to appear on billboards, posters, and banners across the country.
With the peak of the state commemorative events scheduled for August 17, 2026, the logo has become the defining visual marker for the celebrations. For Novario, the win elevates his status from a regional designer to the creator of the official face of the 2026 independence festivities.
