Jobe Bellingham has earned his first call-up to England’s senior squad, joining his older brother Jude for Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain. The selection puts the brothers together at international level for the first time, according to the information available.

Jobe’s rise to the senior squad

England manager Thomas Tuchel named Jobe, 21, in a 25-man squad after a strong start to his second season at Borussia Dortmund. Tuchel said the midfielder had stood out for England’s under-21s and become influential at club level.

“I think in general it’s an incredible achievement for the family and for the brothers to be both nominated for their national team,” Tuchel said. He called their selection “an incredible story in itself.”

Jobe’s route has echoed Jude’s. Both developed in Birmingham City’s academy before moving to Germany and receiving England call-ups.

Jobe made his senior debut for Birmingham at 16 years and 107 days, 69 days older than Jude was at his first appearance for the club. He later joined Sunderland, helped the team win promotion to the Premier League and moved to Dortmund at 19 in a deal worth up to £31 million.

Different paths, shared opportunity

Jude moved to Dortmund at 17 and went on to join Real Madrid, becoming one of the club’s leading players and a star for England at the World Cup. Jobe’s first senior selection marks a new step, rather than an established role alongside his brother.

Jobe has often faced comparisons with Jude, but he distinguishes himself by wearing “Jobe” on his shirt instead of the family name. The choice was suggested by a former coach, he said.

The squad also includes Fulham teenager Josh King, receiving his first call-up. Chelsea forward Cole Palmer was left out; Tuchel said Palmer had missed chances to impress at previous camps.

Jobe’s selection gives him the chance to make his senior England debut in a squad that includes Jude for the Nations League fixtures against Croatia and Spain.
