SASSA warns reviewed grants will be paid later in August

Thousands of South African grant recipients whose payments are under review will wait longer for their August money. The South African Social Security Agency said they should expect payment on August 7, 2026, instead of during the normal three-day payment cycle.
The delay affects beneficiaries whose grants have been flagged for review. SASSA said they should not panic if nothing shows on the usual dates for older persons, disability and children’s grants. No early trip to the office.
What SASSA said
In a statement, the agency said: “The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) wishes to remind social grants beneficiaries whose grants have been identified for review that they will not receive their grants during the normal three-day payment cycle. Instead, they will be paid on the fourth payment day.”
That means older persons grants are due on Tuesday, August 4, disability grants on Wednesday, August 5, and reviewed grants on Friday, August 7. The agency’s message was aimed at avoiding confusion as the August cycle gets underway.
Why the delay matters
For many households, a missed payment date can quickly turn into a cash-flow problem. Social grants often cover basic needs first: food, transport, school costs, and utility bills. A one-week shift can leave families scrambling, especially when they are expecting the money on the usual day.
SASSA’s warning also tries to cut down on unnecessary congestion at local offices. If beneficiaries under review rush in before their payment date, they may only add pressure to branches that are already handling routine traffic. Small delay. Big pressure.
August payment schedule
The agency laid out the August timing as follows:
Older Persons Grants: Tuesday, August 4
Disability Grants: Wednesday, August 5
Beneficiaries under review: Friday, August 7
The update comes as SASSA continues to process grants that have been marked for review. The agency did not say how many beneficiaries are affected, but it made clear that the review flag changes when they will receive payment in August.
For the affected recipients, the key date is now August 7. Not before.
