The murder trial of Lindsay Clancy turned deeply emotional on Thursday as jurors heard from her former father-in-law and then watched testimony from a medical examiner describe autopsy images from the death of one of her children. The Massachusetts mother is accused of strangling her three children at the family’s Duxbury home in 2023.
Family witness takes the stand
Christopher Clancy, the father of Patrick Clancy and grandfather of the children, was called to the witness stand around midday. He began by describing how he first met Lindsay Clancy, offering the jury a glimpse into the family relationship before the killings.
He said Lindsay Clancy was “very protective” of her then-husband and children. He also told the court she was close with Patrick Clancy’s sister. The testimony placed family ties and concern for her well-being at the center of the day’s proceedings.
Christopher Clancy said he knew about his former daughter-in-law’s mental health struggles, and that his son had worries about her condition. Before prosecutors finished questioning him, he also recounted the call he received from Patrick Clancy after the children were killed.
Autopsy evidence brings tears in court
The courtroom grew more difficult to watch when Dr. Kimberley Springer, a medical examiner, testified about images from the autopsy of Callan Clancy in January 2023. Clancy cried during that testimony. Because of the nature of the images, the court ordered that they not be shown to the public, though they were displayed on monitors visible to those in the courtroom.
The emotional reaction underscored how raw the case remains nearly three years after the killings. For jurors, the day combined family testimony, mental health concerns and graphic forensic evidence, all in a case that has already drawn intense public attention across Massachusetts and beyond.
The trial is set to continue, with more testimony likely to follow as prosecutors keep building their case around what happened inside the Duxbury home.
