LIVERPOOL — The Liverpool F.C. vs Atlético Madrid standings conversation changed at Anfield on Wednesday after Liverpool fought back to beat Atlético Madrid in Champions League action. Steven Gerrard, the former England and Liverpool captain, was equally direct on TNT Sports. “I thought his performance tonight was outstanding. Let your football do the talking. Consistency, top performance, show your experience. Show you're a top international. This club will reward you,” Gerrard said of Mac Allister.
Marcos Llorente’s opener had put Atlético in front, and Al Jazeera noted that it was his fifth goal at Anfield in just three games. The Spaniard has made the stadium a happy hunting ground, even naming his dog “Anfield” after scoring there twice in 2020, when Atlético knocked Liverpool out of the Champions League.
Mac Allister’s winner changed the mood fast. “It was a good hit,” he said. “Normally when I am in those positions, I like to shoot. It doesn’t happen very often, but I am happy, happy because I love to score go...”
