New Apple TV 4K Rumored to Add Built-In Microphone and Findable Remote

A missing remote could soon be easier to locate, while asking Siri to control a television may no longer require speaking into that remote. Apple is expected to unveil a refreshed Apple TV 4K at its “Welcome Home” event on Tuesday, October 13, with rumors pointing to a microphone in the set-top box and a speaker in its remote.
The changes would address two everyday frustrations: finding a misplaced remote and reaching for it to give voice commands. The box’s microphone could let users speak to Siri directly, without using the remote or a connected HomePod. The remote’s speaker, meanwhile, could play an alert to help track it down if it slips under a sofa or ends up in a drawer.
Siri and smart-home controls
Reports also point to an A19 chip, replacing the A15 Bionic in the Apple TV 4K introduced in 2022. The newer processor is expected to support Apple’s Siri AI features and improve performance, though Apple has not confirmed the rumored specifications.
A built-in microphone could also make the device a more convenient point of control for smart-home equipment, including thermostats and door locks. That would matter most when the remote is out of reach. But placement could complicate the idea: some owners keep their Apple TV box inside a cabinet, where its microphone may be less accessible.
Launch expected later this month
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported that the new Apple TV 4K and a refreshed HomePod mini are due to be unveiled at the event and launch on October 30. He also said pre-orders for both devices are expected to open this week. The rumored Apple TV would be the first update to the product since 2022.
Apple’s event is expected to focus on new home products. The company has not publicly confirmed the Apple TV’s features, pricing or availability.
