A domestic argument in a west Delhi home ended in death on Friday. Police say a 31-year-old Adobe software engineer, Vinay Gupta, was beaten after a dispute with his wife and later died of his injuries.
The attack took place in Nihal Vihar, where Gupta lived in Laxmi Park. Police have detained four people and filed a case under murder and common intention provisions of India’s Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The probe is still under way.
Dispute escalated quickly
According to police and family accounts reported by local media, the row began in the morning. Gupta’s wife, a homemaker, called members of her parental family to the house after the argument.
They arrived at the couple’s residence in Nihal Vihar and allegedly assaulted him inside the home. The victim’s family says the confrontation was sudden and severe. One relative described it as a “minor” domestic matter that turned deadly. Very quickly, it was over.
Gupta’s family has alleged that the attack was not spontaneous and was planned in advance. They said he was beaten and strangled, and claimed the assault left him with fatal injuries. Police have not publicly confirmed those allegations.
What investigators are examining
Officials said four people believed to be involved in the attack have been identified and detained for questioning. Their roles are being examined as investigators piece together the sequence of events inside the house.
Gupta worked with Adobe in Noida, according to police. Reports about his annual pay package were circulated by family members, though police statements have focused on the alleged assault and the murder case now registered in Delhi.
The couple had been married for around three-and-a-half years and had infant twins, a boy and a girl, who were only a few months old. The family context makes the case especially stark. A home. A quarrel. Then violence.
Police are continuing to probe the circumstances that led to the killing and the exact role of each detained person. The next step is likely to hinge on statements from the suspects, the family and forensic evidence from the scene.
