Roy Keane: Carrick Talks ‘Like a Politician’ After Man United 4-4
Manchester United legend Roy Keane accused manager Michael Carrick of talking a lot but saying little after a 4-4 draw with Aston Villa. United came from two goals down twice but remain in the Premier League relegation zone with one win this season.

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has accused manager Michael Carrick of talking a lot but saying little, after United drew 4-4 with Aston Villa in the Premier League. Keane's comments on Manchester United and its fans came as the club sits in the relegation zone with one league win this season.
"He talks a lot but doesn't say much. I don't know if that's a tactic. Like a politician," Keane said as a pundit after the match.
Carrick's future has come under increasing scrutiny. In his post-match interview he repeatedly said United needed to "tighten up" but gave little away about his own position.
A chaotic game at home
United fell two goals behind inside four minutes. They levelled by half-time, then conceded twice more early in the second half.
A defeat looked certain until Joshua Zirkzee and Patrick Dorgu both scored in stoppage time.
Keane: credit for fight, none for defending
Keane said the manager's message was not enough. "He keeps saying we need to tighten up and there's things we need to work on. But they better get moving on that," he said. "If you keep giving up goals and chances, it's just going to continue."
He also asked what would change. "What are we expecting to change over the next few weeks and months? What are they working on?"
Still, the former United midfielder gave the players some credit. "As bad as the game was from a footballing point of view, they kept going to the end," he said.
He called conceding four goals at home "dreadful" and said United were "still nowhere near good enough to try and get towards the middle of the table."
Young: players look like strangers
Former United defender Ashley Young was blunter about the team's organization. "It looks like they don't even know each other at times. It's tough to watch," he said.
Young turned to the stands. "You're looking at the fans, they're probably wondering what they've just witnessed," he said. He added that, with many young players on the pitch, the team needs more leaders.
United forward Matheus Cunha took no comfort from the point. "So tired. I feel so disappointed," he said.
He said the squad had talked after an earlier match about how to stop conceding. "We did it again, we conceded some goals. We can't do it. We need to play like Manchester United and go forward."
