LONDON — British actor and film-maker noel clarke has been charged with six sexual offences, including two counts of sexual assault, three counts of voyeurism and one count of exposure, after a police investigation in London.
The Crown Prosecution Service authorised the charges on Wednesday after detectives submitted a file of evidence. Clarke is due to appear at Westminster magistrates court on October 21.
Charges follow investigation started in September 2025
According to the CPS, the allegations involve five women and relate to conduct said to have taken place between 2007 and 2016. The Metropolitan Police said the investigation began in September 2025.
Det Supt Mike Cagney said: “The women connected to these charges continue to receive support from specially trained officers. We urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault to contact police. The information you provide will be dealt with in the utmost sensitivity and we have trained investigators on hand to support you.”
Bethan David, the deputy chief crown prosecutor for London, said: “The CPS has decided to prosecute Noel Clarke with two counts of sexual assault, three counts of voyeurism and one count of exposure. This follows allegations made by five women in connection to sexual misconduct that took place between 2007 and 2016.”
She said prosecutors believed there was enough evidence to bring the case to court and that doing so was in the public interest. David also warned against online commentary that could affect the case, saying: “It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
Why the case matters
The charges mark a major escalation in a case that has shadowed Clarke for years. He is known for his role in Doctor Who and for writing and starring in Kidulthood, and the new charges now move the matter from allegation and investigation into the courts.
That matters far beyond one name. It puts fresh focus on how sexual misconduct claims against public figures are handled once prosecutors decide there is sufficient evidence to proceed. The court case will now turn on evidence, testimony and the fairness protections both sides are entitled to under U.K. law.
Clarke, 50, was arrested in September 2025 after police searched his London home, according to Variety’s account of the case. The charges came after that earlier arrest and custody questioning, with the investigation led by the central specialist crime command.
In August 2025, Clarke lost a libel case against The Guardian, which had published a 2021 exposé detailing allegations of sexual misconduct from more than 20 women. During that trial, over a dozen women testified against him, each saying they had personally experienced misconduct by the actor.
Guardian News and Media editor-in-chief Katharine Viner said after the ruling: “This judgment is a deserved victory for those women who suffered because of the behavior of Noel Clarke.” She added: “Going to court is difficult and stressful, yet more than 20 women agreed to testify in the High Court, refusing to be bullied or intimidated.”
The criminal case now moves to Westminster magistrates court on October 21, where Clarke will face the first formal hearing tied to the charges.
